Castro falls, possibly breaking leg

HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) -- President Fidel Castro fell, possibly breaking his leg, after giving a graduation speech Wednesday in the central Cuban city of Santa Clara.

Sending a buzz through the crowd, the 78-year-old leader appeared to trip as he was walking away from the podium.

In an effort to calm the crowd, Castro took the microphone after a few minutes, saying: "Just so that there won't be any speculation, it seems that I broke my knee." He apologized for any concerns he may have caused for those who care about him and then joked how his spill was likely to make headlines in the international media.

Looking shaken, the Cuban leader of 45 years was taken to the hospital where he said he would probably get a cast, promising to get back to normal as soon as possible.

Castro's health has been the subject of widespread speculation for the last seven years. He has at times appeared thin or tired and has disappeared form the public eye for extended periods of time.

Castro's state of health is considered a state secret and is not discussed by the government.

I hope he breaks his neck.

In order to prove to the world that the WOT isn't directed solely against Muslims, I vote for knocking this terrorist (and Chavez in Venezuela) off.  Both have very dirty hands.

I hope he experiences a slow, painful, ugly death.

I know Castro is at the end of his rope, health wise, but doesn't he have a pretty extremist commie successor lined up?  As in, his death won't be much of an improvement?

Once Castro dies the mob will invest in "Cu-bah" even more heavily eventually turning it back into it's pre-revolutionary tropical paradise full of casino's and the like. Hopefully I'll get to visit it in my lifetime.

He may have named Raul as his successor but the Cuban people will name someone else. Cuba is overdue for a little revolution. The U.S. will covertly assist using Cuban groups in Miami.

I think we need to keep our hands off and watch what happens.  The Miami Cubans going back is not a safe bet, they might be a source of funds but thinking they can go back and get their property back is not realistic.  The Imperial Russians, the aristocratice Germans and other easstern Europeans weren't bable too, they won't be either.  They might be able to go back and "buy" back their property but if they ry to assume it, they will have another Palestian problem on their hands.

A hard-liner won't last but the people are used to lousy conditions, and FREE medicine  and schools.  Trying to impose paying for those things from a implanted new regime where they feel they are just getting screwed will lead to civil war.  Remember , you have about 2 generations of people there that have been fed the Yankees are the enemy propaganda all their lives.  Imposing a new way of life isn't going to be easy.  Let them sort it out, and if they want help and ask for it, THEN go in and help, but let them make it work.

It will be interesting to see if the Cuban people can change anything or whether their heads are so full of bullshit that they will never be able to think right again.
