I have had very good luck with the Australian ammo thus far. Never tried the Portugese.

Portugese is good, I've fired over 1000 of it. Was good for 3 inch groups from 100 yards through my M1A. Haven't shot Australian yet. Consensus will most likely be that it's pretty close choice in quality between the two, depends on what your gun likes better and price. Both will shoot in that 2-4 MOA range typical to surplus ammo.

Yep, the Port and Aussie stuff is great. Can't go wrong with either.

For plinking and general use, I like the Australian stuff. But I had good luck with the British Radway Green, Portuguese and South African surplus as well.
But for serious use, there is only one (well, make that two) options for me. Hornady Tap 155 gr AMAX or Federal 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. That ammo sure does make a mess of things and reduces the need for follow-up shots!

I like the aussie stuff too, I don't even own but one 308 and it's a precision rifle. But I've put some of the aussie surplus through it. And the stuff shot very very consitantly. I got several sub MOA groups out of it, but it averaged about MOA out of my rifle witch suprised the shit out of me. I didn't expect that fro ma 147gr FMJ, and surplus at that. I don't make it a habit to shoot surplus out of this .308 but we happened to be doing a lot of shooting one day and I went through all my match ammo(250rounds) and there was still shooting to do so a buddy gave me some of the Aussie stuff. In a pinch I'll shoot it again.

I've had the best luck with the Aussie, but the Port is also very good out of my HK91.
