So I go to wallyworld, and on their flagpole below the stars 'n stripes is a POW flag....but its not the normal mostly black POW flag....this one is white, with the POW artwork set in a shield type design in the middle of the flag.

Anyone else seen these?  WTF is up with changing it?

I haven't seen this, but I believe that the all black flad is actually a universal symbol of anarchy and revolution, which is hardly conducive to the POW cause.

...Then why does the VFW fly that one?

So long as it is respectfully flown, does it matter?

No...I guess not...but it is unusual.

have your life threatened for so much as wearing a ball cap in MARPAT if you haven't been in the Marines.

OT:

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with wearing a ballcap in MARPAT? I'm serious, I really want to know.

Please take the marpat discussion to another thread.  I don't want this one to get locked.

according the powmia website there is NO white pow flag. the white on black is the ONLY recognised flag.

Good to know, thanks.

The volunteer fire company I belong to has been flying the black flag for as long as I can remember.  It is the proper one in my opinion

Hmmmmm. I think I may have seen a black-on-white one once.

I don't know. I can't see making an issue of it unless it's done in pink and baby blue or something....

I would think that the people at POWMIA would recognize any POW/MIA flag, as long as it reminds the masses that we have soldiers missing or held prisoner by our enemies.

I guess the look is more important than the message to some.

Heck, that looks absolutely respectful.  I don't have a problem with that.

Looks too much like the white flag of surrender to me...maybe it's a subtle protest...kind of like the governor ordering all flags at half mast whenever a state soldier is killed.
