Need to vent. My wife loves this show, and I can't stand it. It portrays lawyers as society's saviors. It always covers politically charged issues in a terribly left wing socialist way. The head attorney guy is left of Hitlery. I'd like to punch him in the balls.  Am I missing something? Did I judge this show too early with out watching enough?
I sit in the computer room while my wife watches this stuff. We don't spend time together when it is on. She expects me to watch it with her to spend time together. Maybe if someone can show me the error of my ways I can watch it with her. It just makes me mad now.

Nope, you pretty much hit the nail right on the head.

Fake it.  Nod and gasp when she does.  You will get more.

I like criminalintent though.

The thing is, my wife is a conservative like me and my 9 month old daughter(she even has a GW onesy). That's why I can't understand the obsession. She is very highly educated though and like to see things from all sides. She doesn't get as mad at stuff as I do.

I liked L&O very much when I still had TV. One of my favorite shows. You are supposed to hate Sam Waterson's character. That is one of the things that keeps people coming back.

I don't like many cop shows but this one my wife and I loved.  (quality couch time)

My wife missed the intro to one episode, when she walked into the room she asked "What's this about?"

I responded with  "It's about a HOMICIDE!"
I didn't get any that night

Ya gotta love that moron who went to prison rather than give up the location of the bodies, even though his client had already been convicted and sentenced to death.

The detectives portrayed on Law and Order regularly violate peoples right with illegal searches.  Think about it when you're watching sometime.  It's also nice to see them try to work the system however they can, including using loopholes, to keep someone in custody.  I think the whole show is intended to desensitize us to civil rights abuses in the name of "justice".

Was a total junkie for the frist 6 seasons or so and then gave it up when their agenda began to become a bit too transparent.  I think it was after Claire got killed that things started getting a little too PC and preachy for my tastes.

I've seen later episosdes and taken individually some are very good and some are crap.  Overall, not worth my time.

That's what I kind of suspected, but I disagree with that method. It allows him too much time to voice his liberal opinions, and the rebuttal is short. TOo one sided IMHO.

Any show that has "Ice-T" in it, you know it has to be SHIT...

Liberal and Oppressive pisses me off. Self-righteous lawyers, lawyers that think they're god, that they think they can do anything to put someone away...

The writers need to be educated in reality.

+1 on the crotch-punch for the head persecutor.  The show as a whole annoys me to no end but that statist pig bastard is in dire need of the "pliers & blowtorch" treatment.

If your wife wants to spend quality time together watching tv she should find something you both can agree on.  She loves the show while you want to Elvis the tv when it's on....yeah, that'll work.

What principle???  His client was convicted and sentenced to die...he lost...might as well go ahead and tell them where the bodies are...of course, that bullshit would never happen in real life...in real life, the information would mysteriously and anonymously appear in the DA's office...problem solved...

The show was started by a conservative (Wolf?) and stayed that way for much of the first several years.  But then the Hollywood leftist hacks took over the show and wrecked it.

I love the show. Not the SVT or Criminal Intent or any of the other spinoffs. I don't think that the Sam Watterson character is liberal at all. If anything he is conservative, and just wantes to throw the bad guys in the slammer. Now Claire WAS a raging liberal, but she and Jack always got in fights. Now with Fred Thompson, how can you not like it?

My girlfriend likes to watch all of the Law and Order shows.

She too is fairly conserative, probably more so than I on several issues. I have no idea what she gets out of the show.

I watch it sometimes too. However I watch it for about the same reason that I watch COPS, I watch it and try to think to myself what I would do to try to make them fail to convict or arrest me.

Unfortunately, it will. Once the original L&O dies the horrible death it deserves, there's a NEW L&O floating around that supposedly focuses on "young prosecuters learning the ropes of self-righteousness and liberal-etiquette (oxy moron)."

So, look for another 3-4 seasons (at least) of L&O.

I watch SVU and CI every so often. The shows drive me up the wall sometimes, because the plot is typically layed out the same way every episode.

Episode starts with horrific crime.

Detectives show up, work scene, get no sleep.

Detectives find suspect, go off on wild-assed accusatory tangent. Haul suspect into interrogation and say stuff like "If you've got nothing to hide then just give us a DNA sample!" or some other equal JBTery. Interrogation of suspect continues, typically without attorney present.

New evidence comes in, detectives find out they've just wasted the past day interrogating an innocent person, go out and catch REAL suspect.

Bring that suspect in, convince him to confess via brilliant word games.

There, that's Law & Order in a nutshell.
