I have had an Armalite on order for  since the 14th of September. I am now being told she'll be another 3 to 4 weeks out. WTF?

My local dealer has a comparable looking DPMS "IN STOCK". What should I DO?

Both rifles are m-4 types

Bushmaster.

Of your choices, I'd get the Armalite.  But I've got a DPMS and they ain't too bad either.

Find out what the barrel on the DPMS is.   4140 or 4150 steel.  .223 chamber or 5.56mm M16 chamber?  Chromelined bore?  Chromelined chamber?

Both, of course.

I have Bushies, Wanted something Different. Would take another Bushy at this point, just to get the rifle in my hands.

DMPS isn't chromelined....

Wait for the Armalite. The quality and resale are in different leagues.

ArmaLite all the way.  I have 2, and they are the only ARs I will every buy again.  That's not to say that others aren't good, it's just that I think that ArmaLite is the best.

ArmaLite.  It's worth the wait.

Try a Rock River...

Neither would be my advice.

Cancel the Armalite order and get a Bushy.

Get either rifle and be happy.  All the "chrome" nonsense is just a bunch of baloney [unless you need a substandard plinker that you will never clean to carry around in the jungle].

I'd wait for the ArmaLite, you wont be dissaponited

I have one of each and like them both just fine.  That said, the Armalite is a better rifle.  The DPMS offers excllent bang/buck ratio.

The only possible neg against the DPMS is the non-chrome lined barrel.  However, there is debate whether this is a negative or not.

Honestly, IMNHO, Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, Rock River are all excellent.  Find what you like for what you can afford and get it.

I'm pretty sure we're talking .308s here.

You have to wait for Armalite because of back log.  They have expanded a few times, but demand is higher than ever.  Well worth the wait.  It is hard, I had to wait too, even back in '99 or something.  Buy a cheap .22 to tide you over, or borrow a friend's black rifle.

Think about it for a minute.

With few exceptions, they're ALL pretty good.

Like the 1911s, the patents have expired and everyone and their cousin is making them. Most makers are doing a halfway decent job of building ARs.

I have a DPMS match service rifle and it's OK. DPMS is GREAT for backing up their product, better than anyone I've ever done business with.

Most(not all) of the difference between makers is marketing. Truth is, simple laws of economics generally drive the bad makers out of business when word gets out.

FWIW,Armalite today is NOT the same group of people that started making the rifles in the 60s. The name has been sold.

Isn’t that true with any company?  Harley-Davidson was owned by AMF then bought back. Is it the same Harley-Davidson? How about Colt? Or Jeep?

True enough.

You'd be surprised how many people will buy an Armalite because they BELIEVE IN THEIR HEARTS that the one, only and ORIGINAL Armalite company has been making them all these years. Even though they really know otherwise.

Point being, we can argue Ford, Chevy, and Toyota all day long, but truth is, they're ALL pretty good vehicles. If they were not, they'd be out of business.

I know that.

You know that.

90% of us know that, but there is a segment of people that deep in their hearts will buy an Armalite because they want it to have the name of the original company stamped on it.

Many of these are the dumbasses that will listen to the engineer, that designed their 4 cylinder small pickup, the manufacturer that built it, the gasoline company that makes the fuel. All three will tell him that the damned thing was designed, engineered and built to run on 87 octane gas, and that not only os 93 a waste of money, but tends to be harmful if used exclusively.

This dumbass will go straight to the pump and fill up with 93 and SWEAR that the little pisspot runs better.

Nobody mentioned an M4 until now.

And what's wrong with a .308 carbine?

Not a thing is wrong with a .308 carbine.  One of my 3 AR10s is a carbine and it shoots great.
