Isn't the Chief Justice the most senior?

America has never seen the kind of gridlock that nomination would cause.

Doesn't have to be.

No, Chief Justice (actually "Chief Justice of the United States of America," not "Chief Justice of the Supreme Court") is a specific office. That's why it's common for a president to replace a dead or retiring CJ with another member of the Court, so he gets 2 nominations instead of one.

Renquist has already said that he'll die on the bench before he lets a dim-o-crap replace him. He's shooting for the record as longest justice on the bench anyway.
