Anyone know anything about these?  What engine components such as over-sized cam and so on would have been present in the LEO editions?

I have one and can't make out what specific things are in place that beefed it up vs. civilian sales.

I know it does have a double steel reinforced roof, over-sized sway bar and truck suspension, special brakes, engine oil cooler, etc., but I'm clueless about the engine.

Here is a start:

The drivetrain is where the Chevy gearheads drool over this car. 3.42:1 positraction rear axle, special balanced driveshaft, 4L60 4-speed Overdrive Automatic Transmission (afaik, same as later 700-R4 trans) with WOT upshifts, L05 350 cubic inch Throttle-Body Fuel Injected, roller-cam, V-8 (rated at 205hp@4200rpm / 300ft/lbs @ 2400rpm) with neat features like wide-open-throttle air conditioner cut out. The alternator is a 124A Delco-Remy, the battery is Group 78. From experience, there is considerable power above 4200 rpm.

Sounds like a neat car!

those cars respond very well to exhaust upgrades. not to sound all rice...but its true. Gale Banks makes a great replacement exhaust for the car. i had a B4c camaro police with that motor. i had my cousin fab up an exhaust, swapped the manifold from a 305 Monte Carlo SS with a custom blueprinted Q-jet and that thing would fly. was a dead even match for my brothers 93 LT1 camaro.

Agreed about the exhaust.  Only thing is I think is messed up my TPS readings.  Seems to lope (idle) much lower/slower

i dont remeber having that, i used a set of shorty headers with my custom exhaust. maybe the blueprinted Q-jet prevented that. take it off the smog equipment. that might do it.

Smog equipment?  You mean cat?  When I went duals, I went true duals.  So, the TPS 'gas line' was welded straight to the exhaust pipe (it appears)

Considering TBI 350s were rated around 225hp IIRC, and that engine has roller cam and a few other extra features, I think that rating's a little low.

Actually, I just rememberd the rating for the MPI 350 camaro was 245hp.  Even though it's TBI, I"m willing to bet you are looking at around 250hp in that engine.

Do you mean the TPI? They were 220-245 depending on the year.

Pretty sure chevy switch to roller cam sometime in the late 80's on all their engines, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I meant TPI.  Actually it's the same as MPI, GM called the V8 injection TPI and V6 MPI.

Roller switch was 88 for 4.3L V6, the first year for the 4.3L TBI.   For V8s (except LT1s) it was in '96 when the V8s were called "vortec."  I am not 100% sure the TPI V8s never had roller cams, but I am sure that the TBI V8s didn't until 96.

Edit:  Cause I was thinking about balance shafts on the 4.3s instead of roller cams.

Check my post, I goofed on the 4.3 and had to edit.

Yeah, like I said, not positive on the TPI, but am about the TBI truck engines.  The roller cam was one of the big things about the LT1

Now, what is the uber benefits of a roller cam as opposed to - ?

Solid lift cams?

Less valve train power loss(valve trains is where all the resistance is at), no adjustments needed to the lifters, they also never wear out.

I'm sure there's more.

MORE POWER!!!!!!!!!

you have the carb car right? not the TBI???  despite what anyone tells you the TBI can be an ass kicker. on my last cheap thrill car a 92 camaro 305TBI and a 5sp we ordered the 305 "hot" cam from GM, and milled a set of Vortec heads to get the compression right. that and an exhaust had me whoopin my brothers 93 LT1  (which he just replaced with a new GTO so i dont think that will happen again HAHAHA)

Rollers let you run stiffer valve springs without getting higher rates of cam wear.
