I don't think Nirvana should be listed since I can't see any of their popular albums consisting of anything worthy of the name "rock".

Now as far as favorite, I don't really have one in particular. But some of my more popular bands are/were:

1. Led Zeppelin
2. Georgia Satellites
3. ZZ Top
4. Van Halen

And though many hate their music, I think AC/DC has to be included in there somewhere. Those old bastards have been roaming the stage now for years and it seems they are no less popular today than they were 20 years ago. Their songs may sound alike, but they have longevity if any band ever did. Plus, for a good powerful, driving rock song, they are pretty damn hard to beat.

Where in the blank is Aerosmith in the lineup!  Of all time?  Aerosmith is the best of all time.

None of these except Led Zep should be in the top 10. Nirvana and Metallica, the world would have been better off without.

Metallica's lead vocalist sounds like he's suffering from industrial grade constipation when he sings...

Chicago should be up there. Before they sold out to the power ballad gang in the 80's they were one hell of a band. They still sell out to this day, granted in smaller venues, but there's something to be said of a band that has been around for 35 years and can still rock.

I would consider Metallica to be metal.

I'm gonna have to go with Led Zep.  Very few bands have put out SO MANY really good songs with an original sound.

The Stones should be on the list.  Aerosmith should be on the list.  AC/DC should be on the list.

Bon Jovi should be on the list...

Chicago was a rock band before the 80's.  Their first 13 albums can atest to that. Now if this thread was for rock as in "hard rock" or "heavy metal", than no, Chicago should not be here, but rock....hell yea   they will rock with the best of them.

When voting for the best rock band ever I think it comes down to a decision between
Zeppelin
Stones
Beatles
Aerosmith

The only Zeppelin I hear on the airwaves is that "bloody wedding song" Stairway to Heaven.

The best rock band to ever hit the airwaves was the Beatles.  You'd all be listening to Frank Sinatra and dressing like Pee Wee Herman if it weren't for them.

BTW, all the bands listed are good.  They just aren't in the same league as the Beatles.

Of this list, Gn'R.  But, Stairway to Heaven is one of my all time favorite songs.

Honorable mentions, IMO:
-Aerosmith
-AC/DC
