I was wondering myself.

"October Surprise" is a myth of American politics.  There is no such thing.

Has there ever been an October surprise (politically speaking)?  If so, can you list an example?

The October Surprise myth comes from a Village Voice article that accused the Reagan campaign in 1980 of backroom deals with Iran to exchange arms to Iran, for cash (funneled to the Contras) in order to stop Iranians from releasing American hostages until AFTER the election.

Impossibly convoluted?  Far-fetched?  Somehow it was swallowed whole and became part of the "conventional wisdom" and part of American political lore.

It's complete bullshit.
