Just watched it. I have to say, it gets my vote for scariest fucking sci-fi movie EVAR.
Who else here saw it? Whadidya think? "You know nothing. Hell is only a word. The reality is much, much worse. Here... let me show you!" |
Absolutely outstanding idea made into a half assed movie.
My thoughts. On the whole I really liked it, but it was the premise of the movie more then the performance that sold me on it. |
I went to church the day after seeing it in the theater. I was a hell raising shithead at the time, if that tells you anything.
Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... |
yeah, I remember when I first saw the trailer for the movie it looked like it was going to be awesome. It doesnt take much for a horror/sci-fi film to satisfy me but I thought Event Horizon was really bad.
Ditto.... Scary other dimensions just don't do anything for me. |
it was freaky-deaky in places...I liked it. It had me jumping at a couple of scenes.
It was pretty good till the last part. Great idea to base a sci-fi flick on. Nothing has come close to my 1st encounter with ALIEN. What a ground-breaker!
I first saw Event Horizon when I was 13 or 14 and the damn movie freaked me out!!!!!!
I had high hopes for it as well, but then it just turned into basicly a slasher flick which I find mostly boring.
The scariest sci fi I ever saw was Alien. It scared me so much that I realised about an hour after I had left the theater that I was still clenching my fists unconsciesly. Scary movie. Zen "This is my rifle, there are many like it, but this one is mine" |
+1 However, I find it freaky enough to capture my attention, especially when I slow mo the decrypted video sequence. |
The movie really wasn't scary, it was poorly written, it dragged, there was very little suspense and what there was didn't build to proper climaxes, and the gore really got to me.
I'll never understand how people can enjoy gore for its own sake, it's a sign of a person who's never seen it in life, or have a damaged soul IMO. Alien was a classic, can't compare the two, EH was more like a freddy krueger movie. |
Me too. |
I really liked the movie, BUT I wish it was a hard-core sci-fi and not yet another monster flick.
I felt somehow DEAD after watching that movie. I felt my soul had been ripped out of my body. A horrible feeling. Dont see this garbage movie.
It had Joely Richardson in the movie (blonde chicky snack from The Patriot) thus it was a stupendous movie.
She's got a big ol' nose and freckles and yet I have a thing for that lady. |
It was an OK movie. There was about 20-30 mins of footage cut out of the film. The director has said he has no intentions of releasing an un-cut version.
It was getting pretty good till the "dimension of evil" crap started. They could have taken it in a different direction and still ended up with a decent movie.
It was still pretty good though. |
It's been a long time since I saw it, but I remember being bored, too. |

That's cold! ...but true. |
I liked it. I bought it about a year ago and watch it from time to time. Course I also liked 'In the mouth of maddness', and we all know how well that movie did.
It was... BASED... on Solaris. Actually, the 1972 Soviet version, Solyaris. Which was based on a book. Which was based on a pretty fucking cool idea. Paul Anderson (AvP, Resident Evil, Soldier, Mortal Kombat) strikes again. |
Was this the movie where they were near a mining astroid, that was close to a black hole? They found an evil egg of some kind that made the people want to touch it? When they touched it they became evil and very strong?
Did you see "Signs" or "Titanic"? |
Good idea gone horribly wrong. Anytime a movie has to resort to the "dimension of pure evil", the movie sucks. It's like they ran out of good ideas and just started filming stupid crap to make up for the extra time. I would like to see the whole uncut movie though. That might help it some. Is the uncut version on DVD?
No such animal as an "uncut" version. Paul Anderson has made the "directors cut" vs "stuido cut" argument on many occasions as an excuse for how poor his movies are, and every time, the studio and people who worked on the film have come out and said that no extra film exists for his movies. |
Watched it in the theaters with a very loud sound system. Lots of cheap scares. Boring movie.
Very interesting. Sounds like he is full of crap. Event horizon could have been the Alien for a new generation, but they blew it. Big time. |

That had to be the scariest movie experience I've ever had.
First of all, we got to the theatre late, so the only seats were FRONT ROW. See every last gory detail. Second, I was sitting in between two of my VERY skittish female friends. Imagine having claws digging into your arm every time someone gets cut open. It turns a visual experience into a VISCERAL one! |
Liked the movie
Prince of Darkness gets my vote for scariest movie, though |
Got it on DVD. That movie is great!!!! Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it. |
Event horizon? |
