I am sooo jealous.  I am spending all my money on guns, but now I want bugout gear.
Where do I start?  How realistic should I be in my purchases - do I prepare for -150 celcius!!?!

Their gear wasn't complete.

You don't leave exposed skin at that temp - but Hollywood wanted the face shots

If it's going to be that cold, I'd stay in your house (and eat the neighbors when you run out of food) - the freezing weather will preserve their bodies nicely.

You can't even see the guys breathe in the movie. Take the movie Titanic, that was realistic of the cold temps. You can see the steam for the actors breathe.

You'd be as well off to prepare for the re-unification of Pangea as to expect something like that movie to happen.

Yep, how would you survive if you were aboard a ship was going down a la Titanic. To a lot of people this was a love story, to me it was a survival movie.

Bah, even the full-on loony environmentalist whackos admitted that that movie was way over the top. I'm still trying to figure out how "global warming" causes it to be -150? C outside.

-150 Celcius = -238 fahrenheit

The record for the worlds lowest recorded temperature is -128.6 °F (-89.2 °C).

The only way to prepare for -150 celcius is to make peace with your god.

It was so bad it was funny. We were crying out "Bullshit" in the theatre every time they pushed one of their crazy theories.

I've lived in Williston, Minot, and Grand Forks.  All very cold!  I think the coldest wind chill I remember was around -70 F.

damn! coldest I've experienced was -50F windchill, ice fishing near Perham, MN

In the movie, it was -150ºF, that's fahrenheit, not celcius. But nevertheless, it is plenty cold.

I thought the effects were good in this movie....

If you rent the DVD you "can" listen to the commentery.  The guys that made it spend the first
30 to 45 mins dogging on bush, "classy".   I liked the the first half but the story fell apart after that.
Oh and I think they said they paid something like 10 mill for the fake breath.  If you want a real
survial movie theirs a Doc movie about 2 guys that get all screwed up calming a mountain.  Can't rem them name of it that moive was one TRUE and two you walk away with a wow that was a good movie and I'm really freaking glad that wasn't me feeling.

I saw the movie last night.

IT IS PURE FICTION!

The best deception is a version of the truth!

They tried to mix several global weather theories in one story. The propaganda sucked however the special effects I enjoyed.

I heard this movie sucked, so I waited for it on DVD.  I thought it was a decent movie with some decent special effects.  However, I didn't expect it to be scientifically accurate.  It's a movie.  It's entertainment.  That is all.  I consider criticizing the science of a movie like this to be no different than doing the same for Star Wars.

The original post stated -150 celcius, and I was working from that.  I haven't seen the movie although it was playing on a flight I took back to Seattle from NJ, I didn't spend the $5 for the headphones and I'd left my old set at home.

I was really interested in the movie when I saw the trailers but as I heard more about it I totally lost interest.  I love apocalyptic flicks. It might make a good holiday rental.

-150 Celcius is absurd.  You cannot survive at that temperature.

At that temperature, carbon dioxide would be found as a solid and as a liquid (-79 C).  It would preciptate out as CO2 "snow".  Oxygen is almost ready to liquify (-186 C), as is nitrogen (-196 C).  If they did, they would "rain" and collect in pools.  The atmosphere would be gone.

Your lung linings would begin to freeze in one breath.  The CO2 would liquify in your lungs, clogging them.  You could breathe.

You will die of old age or starvation before you have to worry about extreme cold... if we ever have to worry about the temperature.
