Roofers are so busy here in South Florida that my roofing team won't be here for another 2-3 weeks (!!).  That is 5 full weeks post Frances and 3 full weeks post Jeanne.
So, FEMA has something called 'Operation BlueRoof', run via the Corps of Army Engineers, that does a real bang-up job of installing a heavy-duty tarp on hurricane victim's roofs.
There are SO MANY blue roofs around here, ya would think that it's code now.
Hey, at least I don't have to panic when a rain cloud appears.

Z-out!

PS The pinapple plants survived, as did the AR-10.

My house is making the same fashion statement right now.

A buddy from work filled out the form 3 weeks ago and they didn't get it tarped. In the meantime he got a friend to repair the damaged portion of the roof negating the need for a blue roof.
Yesterday he was raising hell in the office because the Blue Roof folks had tarped his now repaired roof and drove big ass nails through it while he was at work.

I couldn't help but laugh.

it's a sea of blue roofs in charlotte county. In an neighborhood in my zone the week following charley there blue roofs for miles and the roar of generators. The sound alone was just creepy to me. Some people are being told that it might take up to a year for roof repairs. Just not enough licensed roofers.

Still waiting on my blue roof. Patched up all the leaks I could find, just want some extra coverage until I can get a new roof. Most roofing contractors in the area aren't even taking calls now.

Been there...big time.
After the 1st. hurricane, I started at 'A' (AAA Roofers) in the yellow pages looking for a licensed roofer.  I couldn't even speak to a live person.  I musta left 40 or so messages going all the way to 'Z'.  Only 2 (!!) people called me back.  Every roofing company right now is completely swamped with orders.  I grabbed the first licensed/insured company that called me to do the work.  His price was high, but, HEY! he showed up and gave me an estimate.
When your roof is a leaky mess, money isn't everything.  Besides, my insurance company should step up and pay-up.  I'll find that out later this week.

Z-out!

If you could find the roofing material. Do it yourself. I would.

Good luck with your insurance company. Allstate informed me that I will be one of the luck ones that will have to pay a double deductible. My adjuster made it to my house two days before Frances. Now I have two claims

I'm beginning to dislike insurance companies very much.  I had a house fire in June and my company has been very slow to deal with us.  Thank God for Family is all I can say!

Dumb question but why did you guys not put a tarp on the roof yourself?  Also, I bet roofing gets done faster; there have to be roofing companies getting temporary licenses to work in the state.

You need to get some paint and put "Screw The UN" on your blue roof. I bet after a few days, many more will show up painted that way. LOL

I feel for you guys down in FL. When Lily hit us it took 5 months before I could find a roofer. Unfortunately all I could find was one of those out of town companies that ship in the illegals to do the work. 2 years later and I still have problems with my roof. Choose carefully.

I didn't know FEMA would tarp the roof. I spent about 5 hours by myself in blistering heat tarping the roof. Good luck to all you folks down their. I know it sucks.

with as much work as they put into tarping it, they should have been trained to actually repair the roof!
