This is the first of what I hope will be a series of questions. I will try to keep a list of links from post to post as the series progresses.
It is my opinion that one of the many reasons that the founding fathers included the Second Amendment as part of the Constitution of the United States was to help the government from becoming to powerful, intrusive, etc and served as a vehicle to allow citizens not only to defend their newly formed country, but also to protect themselves from a such a government as described above. There is a lot of talk about the government one day may try such things as arms confiscation, subverting itself to a 'world' governing body which infringed on out on sovereignty, etc etc. Do you consider yourself a patriot that would rise up to protect a principle or principles???? Ok, a little ealboration....
Government is made to govern the country, keep every thing in harmony. Not to controll every aspect of it. America over threw the colonial rule of the british because they wan't to suck all the profit out of America by taxing it. Now if we let the government get too strong and make us too weak by disarming us we are totally screwed. They could turn our country into a dictatorship. They could make us all slaves. And this is why I will do every thing in my power to make sure they don't. |

All is well as long as the sheeple have gas in their SUVs, cable TV, supermarkets full of food, malls full of useless goods, free school lunches, fast food, don't have to take responsibility for their actions and politicians who promise to take care of their every need.

Yes I do.
But according to the FBI "patriots" are domestic terrorists. Or so they told us at a Law Enforcement terrorist training class I went to that was put on by the FBI for OK law enforcement. So I guess I am not only an OK LEO but also a domestic terrorist. Edited to add.. Dogs, terrorists, what's the difference? Kill them all! |

Just making a statement -- But to answer this question -- with age comes wisdom and knowledge. Pretty easy to say give me death or .................................. when you do not have wives , children, others depending on you............ It's a fact jack, sometimes life is hard, and complex decisions have to be made, easy when you have a 13 year old mentality.. |

You must not see where Patrick is coming from. He would rather die than see his country continue to be in controll. This is how I see it. If they take something from us. Back then the most advanced weapon that a government might have was cannon. Today the Government Has much more than cannon jets choppers man to even try and make a list is dumb -- way dumb. To think any one, or group of people could defeat them in any way is silly. Yes they fathers had reasons for doing / saying what they said. But they could have no idea of where we have gotten to as far as technology. It would be , no is impossible to even contemplate that any group of citizens could cause more than a disturbance to them if they became corrupted. |

What king was it that got his head chopped of? He had his entire royal guard and they still couldn't defend themselves agenst unarmed civilans. Why you ask? Numbers how many military personal do you think there are that would actually defend the government. Now how many Americans would rise up and fight? That is how. |

I understand we all have families, that is even more of a reason to fight when the time comes.
Better us fighting tyrants/terrorists vs leaving women & children having to defend for themselves at their mercy. Like that saying goes, we may get hanged,but we'll surely get hanged if we do it alone. I've tried to get my chit together,kinda like a spare tire,never know when you'll end up needing it. TG |

I voted yes ,but the problem is, everyone at DU also consider themselves patriots in the
strictness sense of the word. The word "patriot" like many others the left has hijacked, has had it's meaning greatly diminished by improper and over use. GM |

The term patriot was a term used to discribe the people who opposed the British rule. In this case we would be considered patriots because we oppose the rule.
The term loyalist was used to dicribe people who lsupported the British rule. In this case the term loyalist would be used to dicribe those that would fight for the government. |

Most definitely I am a patriot. But I am not the kind of patriot that would enter battle as cannon fodder, nor am I the kind of patriot that believes that the people need to be fed, clothed, cared for, and protected by any government.
I'm the sort who chooses his battles and situations to give myself a real fighting chance, and I'm the sort who believes that we have lost too many freedoms already and we need to get them back. Certainly we have far too many laws in force already. Start with a million acres of open land. Room to run, room to really LIVE. Freedom. Put up a fence here and a fence there, and keep putting them up as you find little (or big) flaws in the property that you want to keep the people and the livestock out of, and before long you can scarcely move without getting tangled up in barbed wire. The same thing applies to our freedoms and the many laws that our (usually) well-intentioned politicians have enacted. The Democrats don't think like that. They want us to be under MORE controls, not LESS. And that's the way of socialism and communism. CJ |
