Looks like I might need meds for high blood pressure.  Anyone taking any?  My biggest question, how long does it take to see a difference after your first dose?  This sucks!  I was trying all sorts of natural stuff (fish oil, garlic, exercise, low salt, diet) and just couldn't get it to go down.

I do,  It runs on my family.   Hypertension isn't always diet related, stresses on the body can raise it.  Untreated illnesses,  cancers and such.

I'm not salt sensative, My grandmother is tho.  I was living with a undiagnosed illness for a few years when the hypertension started.

Day one you probably will not notice much of a change but on day two or three  you will probably notice if you bend over your head will not fell like it's gonna pop.

Btw: I take Lisinopril 5mg once a day.  keeps me at 110/60 on average.

Simple diuretics work about as well as anything else, and are cheap.  You may also notice some dizziness when you stand up.  Ops

Yes. I have to take a small dose of Atenolol and Accupril. Some initial (mild) side effects that go away quickly. I saw results in 3 days.  I eat healthy and exercise, but hypertension occurs naturally in some people. Nothing to be to concernred about.
Just be thankful that you found out before you experienced complications. Good luck in you treatment.

Good luck,

I do an occasional shot of apple cider vinegar and honey.  It sounds weird, my Doc says it works.  If you mix it right, you can make it taste very similar to a whiskey sour, plus, it makes your mouth feel really clean (douche effect?)

Anyway, do a search on apple cider vinegar and you will find more than you could ever want to read in a lifetime on apple cider vinegar.  I take 10mg of norvasc every day for my hypertension.

Great, thanks for the info guys.  I sell real estate and have a very high stress work enviornment.  I'll see my doc again and hopefully be on the road to recovery.  I'm tired of my head feeling like its going to explode

One of the best things you can do for yourself is cut salt out of your diet. Everyone else in my family has high blood pressure.  I get mine taken every 8 weeks when I donate blood. My last three have been
128/70
122/86
118/80

Just did a gargle search about apple cider vinegar and honey. That sounds promising. I will give it a try.  The side effects of it are good whereas the side effects of pharmacueticals are generally bad.

Accupril user here!

For some reason, it seemed to take a while to really kick in for me.  However, there may have been other factors involved (like my retirement! )

Anyway, the first day I started taking it I very nearly did a double back flip on a sidewalk curb.  Suggest you be careful about driving, operating dangerous machinery and such until your body gets used to it.  Initially at least, you might want to consider taking it near bedtime to give it a chance to wear off a bit.

Good luck!!

Edited to add:  I guess you know to stay away from caffeine.

I've been on Atenolol for fourteen years.  Works great for me.

I would consult your physician to get a good treatment plan.  If you don't...you may bust a blood vessel in your noodle one day...a stroke.  That would be BAD.

Good luck!

I take Norvasc, which is a calcium channel blocker (IIRC)  I've never had any side effects from it in 15 years.

Ouch.  I usually put in 10-12 hrs 7 days/week.  I started exercising regularly a couple weeks ago and feel better in that area already.  Started a bit of a diet & low/no salt also this past week.  Part of my normal relaxing each night is making a huge batch of popcorn and drowing it in salt, along with a few Captain & cokes.  Oh well, guess I won't be doing that anymore.

I am 54, and my blood pressure is great.

Quit smoking
Exercise every day
Eat properly
Cut down on the salt
Drink plenty of water; no sodas at all

This will do the trick for the majority of people; you may have to stick with it for a while to see noticable results.

I take Benicar HCT. It's one of those combo drugs and seems to do fairly well for me.

Best advice - lose any excess weight, cut salt, excercize if you're healthy enough - and get your BP under control.
