I realized today when looking at my gun collection that although there are many different firearms that I would like to purchase and would enjoy shooting maybe even more, available funds keep going to those that fit in the assault rifle category for fear that I will not be able to buy them down the road. Others, like that 10/22, Remington 700, and Enfield Mk.4 should be available for a long long time and get put low on the list as a result. Anyone else feel this way?

The only thing stricter laws make me do is not sell off more PC guns like my Mini-14.   If I ever move to a state more PC in the future, there's a better chance I can take it there.

I have a friend who just moved to Ca. and had to shitcan everything except his Mini and M1-A.

No, they are just what I like.

Sure, I'd like to also have a nice PC super accurate bolt gun... but the cost of good optics keeps me from going that route.

Yup.

All I ever seem to by lately is in response to fears of bans.  There seems to be something about the fear that I may not be able to buy something in the future that makes me want to own one now.  This is probably related to the salesman's tactic of suggesting that the item you are looking at might be sold or offered at a higher prioc by the time the guy decides.

I have wanted a nice lever action for years, multiple revolvers, a nice bolt gun, etc. - but have put them off numerous times to buy the latest target of groups like the VPC.  I find it humorous how anti-gun groups have spurred more gun sales than any gun-manufacturer could hope for.

With the AW ban gone (temporarily), now I find myself buying "evil" parts and magazines.  I'll probably get a few more lowers, too.

I've purchased about 10 stripped AR lowers just for that reason.  I'm planning to buy several AK receivers as well.  I'm building up an extensive collection of assault style weapons in the event another ban does come about.

Sadly it has been the driving force behind my last 10 or so purchases. I'd love to be spending money on some nice a sXs shotgun and maybe a safari rifle, but I can’t justify it in till I have the "military style" wish list complete. I got about 10 more to go. Then maybe I'll have money for more "classic" pieces.

Yup, many. Remember sKerry wants to ban all centerfire ammo and all semi auto rifles and shotguns. He supports the proposed U.N. gun ban treaty.

yep, ordered 2 LE6920's, still waiting for them, ordered a Beta C mag and shitload of glock mags for my 3 glocks, and just ordered a Glock 20 and 22C which I'll pick up Monday ht
I remember in 94 or 95 when Klinton banned the importation of Norinco ammo, cheap 7.62x39mm dried up, there was no Russian stuff available then.  Now every gun show I pick up a case of Wolf 7.62x39 for hoarding purposes.

To answer your question, yes. I am now buying more pre ban era restricted items due to the fact that some day, they may be restricted again.

I have bought an Armalite M15a2, a Beta C-mag, a RRA parts kit in "pre ban" configuration for a stripped lower I have.

I am thinking of buying a shit load of USGI mags to stash.

I like to think I've bought as many ARs as I might ever need.  Unfortunately for my check book, this probably means I will just have to develop an interest in AKs.

Yes, and no.

The threat of another gun ban was what originally made me buy my first EBR, but the economic factors have made me keep buying them.

Specifically, surplus and imported ammo for 'military-style' rifles is just too cheap to resist. Often, the savings on ammo alone more than pays for cost of the firearm that shoots it! The same goes for accessories ($6 AK mags!).

Furthermore, in inflation-adjusted dollars, a lot of mil-surp firearms are incredibly cheap nowadays (particularly guns from the former com-bloc countries). Throw in the ability to get many of them delivered to my doorstep with no sales tax or FFL involvement (thanks to mail order and a C&R license), and it's no wonder that the evil gun collection has gotten considerably bigger over the past few years...

Hell no makes me buy more.  I got to stock up for when the blue helmets come and try to take them away.  Those blue helmets will make such good targets.  Look at me, I'm giddy like a school girl.

I think the AWB created more of us gun nuts than they could ever imagine.  I was a naive kid about guns in Sep 1994.  I didn't own any, although I had briefly owned a revolver I thought was cool.  I had only ever planned on getting a Glock, someday.

Nevertheless, I knew what the 2nd Amendment said, and I knew the AWB was bullshit.  I joined the NRA, bought an SKS and AK, and never looked back.  My first AR was a postban, but they have created a monster with all the semiauto rifles purchased.

Now that the 50BMG's are in the antigunners' crosshairs, I will buy one of them too.

The 1994 AWB ban accomplished what a billion dollars of gunmaker advertising could never have achieved.....

Not really.
I buy them for the same reason I've always have.  Two words: Family Outtings
When I turned legal age to purchase them (circa 1988') I've purchased a few here and there on a regular basis.
Its our responsibility as gun owner to stay on top of this.  We can make a difference by way of our elected officials. I don't think that going out and buying an Assault Weapon is the solution to the answer.  I would suggest going out and buying multiple.

*edited to add:
I did get this Cav, this week

I still have a good stock of black rifles and high cap (regular cap) hand guns from before the first ban, along with vast quantities of mags and ammo (kept high and dry).

I just purchased an FN 5.7 pistol and four 20-round mags, along with two cases of 5.7 ammo. The mags are marked Govt/LEO use only. Great reminder that a new, even more draconian ban may be imposed in the future.

Next on my list is the Robinson Arms XCR. I am on the waiting list.

My only problem now is hiding my spending frenzy from the old lady.
