Awhile I bought a new subwoofer for my home theater and the driver soon proved to be defective.  The company promptly sent a replacement with no questions asked.  Since then, it has performed flawlessly.

For some reason, I kept the old driver around as I tend to be a pack rat...

Is there any use for it?  For some reason, I'd hate to throw it out.

It is the speaker featured here...

www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_csplus_features.htm#woofer

Which goes in this sub....

www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_pcplus_20-39.htm

...for what it's worth.

Anything I could do with it?

The problem I was having with it was it could not handle any decent amount of bass at moderate volume without distorting and "bottoming out."

I should mention that anyone looking for a sub with some serious rumble capability should seriously consider one of the SVS models.  Very good writeups no matter where I have looked and I like it a lot personally.

Mount the magnet on the end of a pole or stick, and use it to pick up metal parts.

the main magnet is usefull as stated above.
you can also use the coil for the electromagnet.

Its junk. Throw it out, it has no real use. You *might* be able to get it reconed if you contact the manufacturer.

Not just the manufacturer – Most major cities have at least one independent shop that specializes in reconing speakers. Whether or not it would be worthwhile is another matter altogether...

+1

I have almost the exact same sub.
I bought mine about 5 years ago, when SVS first got started and the word was getting around on www.hometheatrerforum.com (the forum was alot smaller then).

SVS subs are some of the BEST out there, especialy so for the price.
(I got mine for about $500  )

Care to elaborate?

Do you mean...stripped extension cord...hook her up...watch the hillarity ensue?

This has all the makings of a "hold my beer, watch this"

What could I expect?

strip an extension cord, affix the stripped leads to the terminals on the sub, have the magnet facing up and the whole thing flat on the ground and plug it in!
it looks cool, but I'm afraid it wont work too well after this treatment.

P.S. a posted video would be really cool

Get a cord with a plug on one end and bare wire on the other.  Hook it up and plug it in.  The last time I watched a sub go up like that was with an 18" Rockford Fosgate Pro.  This was when Rockford ruled the sub world.

You might wanna do it outside.

Wouldn't that just trip the breaker immediately and ruin all the fun?

What kind of sound are we talking about here?  A lot?  I hope so.  This is starting to sound really stupid.  I might just do it.

not so much sound as it mainly jumps around, its pretty cool to watch, sometimes you get a bit of smoke off of it too.

120 volts RMS into 8 Ohms – That's around 1800 watts (or 3600 watts if it's a 4 Ohm speaker)...

Yep, should jump around real good for a fraction of a second...

It would sound a lot louder if you mounted it in some sort of enclosure first – otherwise, the sound from the front of the cone tends to immediately cancel out the sound from the back...

plugged plenty into the wall at my old shop, 60Hz, they usually play for a while then the voice coil fries. some of the heavy duty ones will play for a long time before they give up, if at all. Bosch relays too, they buzz around like pissed off cicadas until they die.
