According to an August Washington Post profile, Maura Hall of Washington, D.C., has spent more than $25,000 (an amount which a United Nations food program says will feed 350 Third World children for a year) for a kidney transplant and post-operative care for "Lily," her longhaired gray cat. (Among the post-op procedures: weekly, $200 blood tests for the rest of her life.)

Hall said she encounters hostility from not only those who disagree with her priorities, but also other pet owners who feel guilty that they can't afford such expensive care. (Also, an August BBC News dispatch from Brazil reported on the various cosmetic procedures available for dogs and other pets, such as wrinkle reduction, eyebrow correction and even full face-lifts, but which, fortunately, are less expensive than a kidney transplant, e.g., about US$75 to make drooping ears un-droop.) [Washington Post, 8-29-04] [BBC News, 8-16-04]

WTH are some people thinking?

I'm thinking someone shoulda shot the stupid cat and sent her money to our troops in Iraq.

IBT the runoff between Arowneragain and AgSrt15.

What I don't understand is how someone that...ridiculous...manages to get that kind of money.  "A fool and his money are soon parted", but the fool above somehow has a good way to get more....

Her money, her choices.

You come off sounding like a socialist when you complain about people spending exorbitant amounts of their own money FOR WHATEVER REASON!

This typical DUer behavior is like saying "1 yacht can fully fund government healthcare for 10 million people for life" or something dumb like that.

I betcha there are 50 people reading this post who have spent 25K+ on guns they will never need.

I don't begrudge them their choice.

The difference is that while I THOUGHT that, i didn't get on TV and make a career out of trying to spend half the nation's budget pushing my thoughts as an idyllic vision of socialist governement and how things 'ought to be'.

Yes it sucks that she spent enough money to buy wifeofgunnut a new car and some presents for her daughter, but its her money and she is free to do whatever pleases her  Gun owners, especially the members of this board should understand better than anyone else what happens when one allows the mob to decide what is "needed" and what is not.

It's just fukkin stupid is all.  It's Stooopid.

She could've bought a lot of weapons for that money.

She could've gone out and had one hell of a vacation.

She could've donated it to the NRA.

She could've bought us all some beer.

I just think it's stupid.

Hey, if I had the cash (lots of it, like 500k a year) then I'd do it for my cats.  At my current salary level however, well, there's a time and a place for a 22LR, and that sounds like the right one.

Hence, my post.
