Arfcommers, this message to inform you about the Ad running in the Washington Post today (Oct. 12).
The Ad is reportedly an initiative by "concerned private citizens" opposed to the US led campaign in Iraq, claiming that 80% of the Norwegian population are opposed the war in its entirety.
(See the Ad at www.tellhim.no, feel free to use the mail address listed there for purposes of venting)

This is a lie.
The initiative was started by members of a political party, Sosialistiske Venstre Parti (Socialist Left Party), the funds were raised by its supporters, and the message contained within the Ad itself is a perversion of the truth.

The Poll they are referring to, asked if people were for, or against, military action based on the reason givenat that time, i.e. to disarm Saddam and eliminate his stockpile of WMD, and any facilities for the production of such.

Iraq beeing at that time disarmed to a point almost without parallel in history, virtually nobody would support an invasion with disarmament as it's primary objective.

However, this does not mean an unwillingness to kick Saddams arse for any number of other reason, such as his moustache, or atrocious style of dressing, etc. (Oh, and the oppression thing too!)

So, in short, we called BS on the WMD thing, but said 'do it anyway, we're tired of seeing of his face on the TV (Oh, and the oppression thing too!)'

Sadly, I suspect that 'Getting the bastard of the evening news' is more motivating for the sheeple than any real sympathy for the people in Iraq,.

Not to be disrespectful, but I hope more european parties print ads critical of Pres. Bush.  If the socialist left is against it, it can't be all bad.

True. This particular party is often called the Angry Vagina party, and is little more than a pain.
But.. unfortunately, the Ad doesn't identify them as the originators.

I was expecting something like this.  Foreign demonstrations and public declarations pleading Americans not to vote for Bush.
