Wow, I wish I could get it down to 10 minutes. It takes me forever. Of course when I'm done it's spotless inside and out. It's horrible when I go out for a big shoot with several friends. Thousands of rounds, then time to pop the no-doze to get them all clean again.

Less than 30 minutes with MP-7 and a chamber guide and dewey rod (and a special chamber rod/brush/holder Whicj I also use with t-shirt rags to quickly clean the inside of the upper).
If I clean the bore with hoppes or foaming bore cleaner (every 1,000-2,000 rounds) then add a half hour (an extra 10 minutes of work, the rest letting the bore soak) |

I just use a spray bottle of simple green a few brushes and a bore snake. Clean as a whistle in about 10 min. Then lube with clp.

A quick cleaning takes about 30-40 mins, including disassembling bolt.
If I start picking at the carbon crud that squirts through the key, that's another 20 mins, but I only do that every 3 or 4 trips to the range. |

 As short a time as possible. 1) Run solvent brush through bore a couple times 2) Alternate wet patch/dry patch 3-4 times or until I'm only removing moly from the bore 3) Apply moly treatment 4) Clean bolt, wipe off inside, outside of rifle. 5) Reassemble, dryfire, and stuff it in the safe This is for pricier $ hipwr rifles. Never had a malfunction that wasn't mag-related, and I've never had any accuracy or consistency issues unless the barrel was approaching the end of its life. |

A full clean and lube(bbl, chamber, internals, hand grease off the grip and handguards) takes about 45+ min. The only thing I take longer to clean is my Les Baer Monolith HW.

Take down the bolt, wipe everything with a rag. Relube with CLP or Mobil1, ready to go. I shoot wolf, and have NEVER had a functional failure. 90% of people are still in the bootcamp mentality.
Oh, the rifle still manages to pull off 1 MOA or less in more-capable hands. The barrel's been cleaned exactly once in its life. |

It takes me at least 30+ minutes to get the job done on my AR. I use Powder Blast, Hoppe's and CLP and do a total tear-down almost every time. Scrub...scrub...scrub and wipe...wipe...wipe. I even use this scraper tool for the chamber.
I'm so damn anal about a clean firearm...I know it isn't necessary MOST of the time but I guess it's my military training. Strange though...I remember a couple of occasions when we humped for a week or two without cleaning our M-16s or M-60s. My commie gun is a lot easier to clean and it only takes me about 10-15 minutes. The M1A is a bit easier than the AR too...maybe 20 minutes. The M48A Mauser is the easiest of all. I usually let the Mauser sit over night after douching the bore down with Windex then a quick brushing, to kill the acid in the old corrosive primers. Then it takes me just about 10 minutes total. IIRC, the Germans used to piss down the bores for that reason. |

I'm a firm believer in the idea that you do more harm to your firearm cleaning it, then you do shooting it.
I still voted 30-1 hr cause I clean my firearms once every 2 or 3 trips out and I do alittle make-up if you will. |

It takes me about an hour to clean the bore, bolt assembley, upper reciever, and lube everything.
ETA - I usually shoot 100-200 rounds when I take it out, and I do a full clean everytime. |

i'm a kalashnikov guy...what is this "cleaning" of which you speak???
hell, my m16 goes 3000-4000 and more between inspections/cleanings. when i do clean it, it take about 1/2 hour-45 minutes. |

Between 15 and 45 minutes. It all depends on how clean I want it, and how tired/busy I am. I usually clean it after every time I go shooting though (usually 150 rounds or so). The only time I don't clean it after shooting is if I plan on shooting the next day, and then sometimes I will anyways. Once in a while, maybe every three trips, I'll give it a good cleaning where I get the extractor, really get everything good. I've only cleaned the bore twice, I think. I've cleaned the chamber maybe half a dozen times. I mainly focus on the bolt, bolt carrier, and upper receiver - the moving parts and the surfaces they move on.

Useually a minimum of 30 minutes, but that includes an inspection. I use GunScubber and CLP. I rod the bore until the patches are clean. I use Bore Butter for the bolt and bolt carrier. Once I even used oven cleaner and it worked pretty damned good.

Wipe the fouling off the bolt carrier group and inside the receiver, add CLP. Solvent patch or two through the bore til they come out clean. Brush it maybe every 500 or so rounds. After re-lubing wipe everything down with a rag for rust prevention, no more than 15-25 minutes.

I disassemble the bolt and carrier everytime for a good cleaning to get all the carbon out. Of course, those are match ARs.
My wife calls me her pit crew and I do my best to make sure she never has a malfunction. Been successful so far. Happy wife makes for happy evenings--or any other time for that matter.

Less than 20 minutes.
When I come in from shooting, I field strip the gun, put the bolt/bolt carrier assembly in a can of mineral spirits to soak. I start cleaning the bore, while the bore is soaking I clean the bolt / bolt carrier with CLP. Once the carrier is clean I finish up the bore, wipe down the inside of the upper and lower, clean the flash suppressor, put it back together and it's all done! I noted some of you use Simple Green. I do not know where I heard it or if I'm imagining it, but doesn't Simple Green do something to aluminum that is undesirable? |

I still clean mine Q-tip clean like I was going to have to have it inspected by a
Marine armorer before I could put it in the safe. It takes me 3 hours plus, but when i am done, that S.O.B. is super clean. |

Can we get "1 week or more" added to the poll, cause I usually procrastinate about it for a few days, then I start cleaning all of them, hardest first, then easiest. the AR's fall in the middle.(The thompson is a bitch to clean if you have big fingers

Ditto, but only after 500 rounds or once a month. In between just a bore snake and bolt carrier cleaning ~30 minutes. When it's time for THE cleaning, I just throw in a movie (usually something like HEAT or a like gun movie ) and get'r done. usualy go through about 50 double sided long wooden swabs.

Cleaning the bore takes maybe 20 minutes, including soak and wait time with Hoppes. 5-8 passes with a Hoppes-dipped bore brush, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, alternate with dry and wet patches after. When you're removing copper (from either the brush or bullet jacket), I hit it with one more ultra-wet patch and let it sit for 5 or so minutes more while I finish up the bolt group and upper receiver.
Cleaning the rest of the upper..around 20 minutes, including cleaning under the extractor (it gets real gunky, especially with Wolf), inside and outside of the bolt carrier, qtipping the bolt (I don't like to waste Hoppes in a bowl or something to just let it all soak in and wipe off after), and taking an old CLP-soaked rag to the inside of the upper to clean it all off. I also clean the lower as much as I can easily do with some .30cal patches or a rag (wipe off the hammer face and all along the inside of the magwell, etc). Total time, around 30-45 minutes and a beer or two. |

I've taken to using WIPE-OUT to clean the bore(s). Spray the foam, wait an hour, use a jag to push 3-4 patches through, do it all over again and call the bore clean. WIPE-OUT literally disolves the copper residue from within the bore - pretty damn cool not to have to use brushes anymore.
I broke down and purchased a lug cleaning tool from Sinclair International. Really cuts down on the cleaning time and does a fantastic job: Sinclair Lug Recess Tool I also purchased a quart of SLIP 2000 Carbon Cutter. I break down the bolt carrier group, let things soak for 15 minutes then use a rag/air hose to finish up. Aside from the time spent waiting for the bore cleaning foam to work it's magic, I only spend about 45 minutes on each AR. They're also a lot cleaner than they used to be... |
