Thanks to all of you that first posted about the CMP Garands, kept the thread near the top with great info on requirement to order and easy ordering instructions.

Fedex came by Friday but I wasn't home so I stopped by the Fedex office Saturday and picked it up.  Awesome rifle, that's all I can say.  I can't wait to get out to the range with it.

Again, thanks to everyone.

Congratulations!  That is a fine rifle.  Wasn't General Patton who said, "The M1 rifle is the best battle implement in the U.S. Army," or something like that?

gentlemen, please support the cmp! they support shootingsports!

Definately plan on getting another.  I have 3 sons and every rifle I get, I get 4 of so I can hand one down to each of them.

I've got two; an International Harvester service grade and a Springfield rack grade. I take the Springfield to the range often. It is a blast to shoot! Eight pops and a "ka-ching," load another clip and keep going!

I really like my garand, but it is near impossible to find M2 ball to shoot.

WhenI tried the korean stuff,  the pressures were quite safe, but had a bunch of velocity variation which causes crappy accuracy.

I wanted to get some of the CMP surplus, but $240 an order is a budget buster for me, and no other local garand shooters to split an order with.

Sadly, am now trying to sell the H&R due to lack of suitable ammo.

Thanks for the suggestion.  He has been out of the danish for some time.  All he has is the corrosive korean, same deal everywhere else I have tried for the last month. The non corrosive korean is crappy, I tried it.

Two sons and a daughter, I buy four of each as well.

ETA: Don't forget your daughters need to know how to hunt fish and shoot too. Thier is no reason to raise a girl thinking that she has to be dependent on anybody. My mom hasn't been hunting in probably thirty years, but she could if she got hungry enough, my wifes mono wouldn't let her dad take thier daughters hunting, thought killing animals wasn't lady like, not good.

Much to my wife's disapointment, we only had 3 boys.  Makes it a little easier on me though.

What about the American Eagle 30-06 by Federal?  I heard it isn't a really hot load.  Wouldn't that be close to M2 Ball?

I am lucky to have quite a bit of M-2 ball on hand, along with lots of Danish, but if you dont have any the American Eagle 30-06 150gr is what you should be shooting....

DONT GET RID OF YOUR GARAND!...

( But if you have to let me know, Im always willing to kick out a dirty black rifle to make room for the adoption of a true american War Hero!)

'06 is easy to reload for and you will know what the buring rate of the powder is.  Hot loads and slow buring powder = problems.

The hoops are definately a pain in the arse but the wait wasn't long at all.  Sent off the paperwork and recieved rifle about a week and a half later.

How far away are you from another ar15 member or Moderator like P38 Lightning?  Share an order?  Just a thought or got to the hometown forum and see if someone's close.  I'd do it in a minute if I wasn't in CA.

I'm just waiting for my C&R to arrive.. the very next day I'm sending out my money and order for the Greek rack grade CMP.. I think I'm going to end up rebarreling it for .308 to try to reduce the number of different calibers I have - the FAL should be in the works soon.
