Depends.....Obsessive Compulsives and people with depression (the common cold of america) are considered "mentally ill". But they are perfectly capable of making rational decisions when it comes to politics.

That's the same opinion of those 26 States. I agree. If someone has a court ordered legal guardian, they cannot vote. |

Yep. About 50 percent of the voters in the last Presidential election were obviously mentally ill. |

Who is deeming these people "mentally ill"? I mean the day is coming when a Republican could be given that label & denied the right to vote....... it's the only way the democrats can steal the elections.

What's the difference?..........we have supposedly sane people who can't speak our languge, or who can't tell you the name of the vice president, or are just plain dumb asses VOTING!! Even dead people vote.

There's a fella named Steven Prye from Missouri who has a schizoaffective disorder. He's required to have a legal guardian and he was turned down when he tried to register to vote.
They say that if he tries to vote, he'll go to jail. |

I chose the "legal guardian" selection. I can't vote an outright "No" because I don't trust the government to judge a person's mental health, so the "legal guardian" test seems reasonable to me.

I don't see why not... They probably don't even know who they're voting for. So we've got a 50/50 chance of them voting for a candidate we want.
But just because they're special, we should have things like "soap", "the moon" and "John F. Kennedy" as options... You might be surprised who votes for what, including the sane people. |

Define mentally ill; if its something thats controllable by medication, its no worse than any other medical disability...would you forbid a disabled person from voting if they were, say, blind? If their mental illness is so bad that they cannot care for themselves or are institutionalized, then no, they are not capable of making a rational choice to vote.
