I'm curious as to the origin of the term "faggot" in the context of an homosexual.  It used to mean an ember.  A "fag" meant cigarette in certain British slang.  And, there is "fagged out" as in very tired or worn out.

They vfery well *may* be, but there's a few decent Republicans, too. A **few**.... although most of those have been leaving the party in disgust, lately.

As I said to a friend years ago, I'd rather deal with a conservative with principles than an opportunist pig who merely **calls** themselves a socialist (or liberal) and has no ethics or principles at all.

In English slang well up into the 20th century, a "fag" was a boy at a boarding school who provided menial services to a wealthier boy, including (but presumably not limited to) doing laundry, cleaning up, and general stepping and fetching. I'm betting that the reputation of English boarding schools as hotbeds of homosexuality, combined with the status of the boy known as the "fag" is the origin of "fag" as slang for a homosexual.
