There was a stong sulfer smell in downtown St. Louis today. They are still unsure where it came from. I was talking to someone that said about a day before the last major earthquake there was a strong sulfer smell. I am starting to believe this with Mt. St. Hellens doing things this might be a good hyposthis (sp? I can't spell). What do you think? Maybe major SHTF situation?
Here is an article: www.ksdk.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=67877 I saw on another channel that they were still unsure. |

Went shopping, didn't buy tin foil. Damn. Oh wait we're talking natural disasters. Get under a desk after you seal the room with duct tape.
You should be prepared for a SHTF situation regardless
Do a little research on the topic. Can't hurt, and could be interesting. - BG |

quick go to the nearest tallest building you can find
if its true we need to declare war on mother nature for fucking with us so much. |

Can we get some real answers people?

I am surprised we have not seen more press. Hawaii is having eruptions, Mt. St. Helens, and Mexico. Ring of fire is active for sure right now.
in all reality it is messed up and i hope the experts are wrong I dont wish an earthquake on anyone, and I dont have an answer either.
Another thing I thought about: If this was possible wouldn't scientists had already checked this out with the Prez and Skerry in town?
if they know there is an earthquake coming they probably wont tell no one to prevent a big evacuation. st. louis is a big town with lots of revenue last thing they need is panic. its not like a hurricane you can see coming. |
But would they bring the President in or just fake a death of a close family friend and make it so he couldn't show up? |
well if prez doesnt show up then maybe you should take a long drive away from st louis for a while, just to be on the safe side |

the Madrid fault line is falling!

Was the sulfur smell all over the place or concentrated in a small area?? If it was concentrated in a small area did you happen to notice a guy eating rib sandwiches??

It was in a few square mile area.
ETA: www.gospelcom.net/chi/DAILYF/2002/02/daily-02-07-2002.shtml February 7, 1812 • World's End? Devastating Quake in New Madrid Have you ever been in an earthquake? It is a frightening experience to feel the ground roll uncontrollably beneath you. What is believed to be the greatest earthquakes recorded in the central United States (although Missouri was a territory then, not a state) came on this day, February 7, 1812 and it was terrifying. Estimated at 8.5 on the Richter scale, it killed as few people as it did only because Missouri was lightly settled at the time. People screamed as the ground rumbled, vibrated and bucked with a deafening roar. Sinners fell to the ground and prayed their souls might be spared. To the evangelical, it seemed the end of the age, prophesied in the Bible, was near. Christian slaves warned masters and mistresses that they were going to "catch it" now that the Lord was at hand. It certainly seemed that they might be right. This was the fourth or fifth major quake to strike the area in less than three months. Everyone agreed it was the worst. A dark cloud of dust filled the air. The stink of sulfur was strong. The Mississippi River flowed upstream. The town of New Madrid, Missouri collapsed fifteen feet and was completely destroyed. An area 150 miles long and forty miles wide sank three to nine feet. Geysers of sand and rock spewed up through fissures and drifted across the land, leaving a soft layer so deep, a horse could not walk. Trees, houses and people disappeared into other fissures. Hundreds of acres of forest toppled. Stranded fish died when waters changed course. In a Kentucky city, 400 miles away, chimneys slithered to the ground. Plaster cracked and church bells rang in Montreal, Boston and New York--about a thousand miles away. Boats foundered in South Carolina's Charleston River. Masonry cracked in Connecticut. Virginians reported they could scarcely stand up. Altogether, 2,000,000 or more square miles were shaken by the quake. The Bible predicts a mighty earthquake at the end of the world. The first New Madrid quake was also predicted--by the Indian chief Tecumseh. He said it would be a sign for the Indian tribes to reunite and drive the white men into the sea. When his words came true, thousands of braves joined him outside Detroit to give battle, but the predicted victory did not materialize. Ironically, after the February quake (the last of the big ones, although geologists say another could occur) some settlers pulled up and left Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky. As George Henry Crist wrote on February 8th, "If we do not get away from here the ground is going to eat us alive. We had another one of them earth quakes yesterday and today the ground still shakes at times. We are all about to go crazy -- from pain and fright...A lot of people thinks that the devil has come here. Some thinks that this is the beginning of the world coming to a end." |

Alcohol consumes the worries of some...others resort to illegal drugs. I eat rib sandwiches. Try it. |

From this article here I don't know if your going to have an earthquake, but it does seem to me that maybe the earth below you is going through some changes. Ya might want to go fishing or take your AR to the hills for a few days. |

Any one actually click on the link?
"(KSDK) -- A foul smell that drove hundreds of workers from offices throughout the downtown area was apparently caused by the release of a small amount of hydrogen sulfide from the Solutia plant in Sauget, Illinois." |
New Madrid fault, San Andreas fault, and Mt. St. Helen's are all completely unrelated apart from all being a part of the earth's crust.

Ah, but what if they are wrong?? Always prepare for the worst case scenario. |
And your point is? I'm was implying that maybe the New Madrid was ready to cut loose - independant of Mt. St. Helen. |
In that case, as you were |

Thank you. You'd think some people never took freshman geology. |

Bah, nothing is going to happen.
This place is beginning to sound like DU, without the blame placed on politicians. - BG |

Well, if anything does happen, I know my town is teh fuxx0red. We are sitting on a major part of a fault line branch, in NW AR. Hell, the fault runs right under the vault of my bank. And if something major happened, none of these buildings are rated for earthquakes. It is a good thing that we only have one building taller than 7 floors in town.
A 5.7 hit while I was here in Tokyo on the 18th floor of the hotel. The buildings sway by somewhat impressive amounts in a quake that size. Took a while to settle down.
No sulpher smell beforehand. |
