No clue. Who IS DLR?? So, I guess theres no current production .44's besides the DE's then eh? How are the DE .44 pistols? I actually havent heard all that good of stuff about the DE .50's |

L.A.R. had one but if you were going to buy it you were better off to just buy the 45 Winchester Mag version and not fight with rims on your ammo. Rimless rounds feed better in a semi then rimmed ones do, that's why I'd have went with the 45 Win Mag over the 44 Mag any day of the week.

Not the same .44 Mag as we know it. It used .44 AutoMag, which were necked-down .308 cases. |

The AutoMag was ballistically a .44 Magnum, but the ammo used special rimless cases made from cut-down 7.62NATO rifle cases. PITA unless you are really dedicated. Looked good in Dirty Harry's hands though. ETA: dammit, MC was faster on the mouse. |

Yes aside from the cost of the pistol,you would do well to check the prices of the Ammo for the .44 mag auto loader!!!!!!

I've got a LAR Grizzly, it operates 100% like a giant 1911. Some of the parts from a 1911 would even fit the Grizzly. The Grizzly initially came standard chambered for the 45Win Mag, and later the 357Rem Mag & 45ACP conversion kits were added. The 10mm Auto, 44Rem Rem and 50AE were added. I have the older version frame that could not take the 44Rem Mag and 50AE conversion kits, but the later production frame could take all of the older conversion kits. LAR stopped making the Grizzly MkI about 5 years ago, those folks lost a heavy duty lawsuit when their 44Rem Mag was used in a murder. |

I have a Desert Eagle in .44. I like it alot. It's pretty reliable, but definatly prefers the 240 grain rounds over the 180's. The 180's seem too light. They leave a yellow "Bee Pollen" residue from unburnt powder. It's a pretty accurate and definatly powerful. Huge fireball at night! Recoil is very manageable as its a gas operated semi auto. Heavy and large, but otherwise, it's a very good pistol. You will have top decide for yourself whether its worth the 1000 dollars or so to buy your own.

Real factory loaded 44 Auto Mag ammo of yesteryear is in the realm of collector status. New brass is available from Starline Brass at $202/1000. |

Worth EVERY PENNY!!! The Auto Mag, when loaded with Hornady XTP's and a bucket of WW296 is ( nearly...but not quite ) as close as I will ever get to heaven.  |

I remember those. Boobs, guns, terrorists, good old fashioned pulp stories. I remember Mack Bolan shooting "240-grain boat-tailed hollwpoints" from his AutoMag. Then I'd go look in my reloading books for .44 Magnum boat-tailed bullets. |

Forget to say, I spoke with Nadine Sanford, the widow of Harry Sanford(the originator and builder of the original 44 Auto-Mag), and she says they have a lots of pare parts for the 44 Auto-mags. No complete guns, just spare parts. But I neglected to ask her for the website name unfortunately, and I don't run into her too often. May want to do a google. |
