Remember the big push in the late 70's to convert the U.S. to the metric system? What happened? Haven't heard shit about it for years.

Haven't you noticed, the metric system is here!  Somewhere around Louisville the huge highway signs are shown in KM with miles in parenthesis.  Have you noticed that bottles of water come in 500mL, 750mL, and 1L bottles?

All cars have engines in liters now not cubic inches.

What I hate is the tape measures with both unit of measure on it.

Because we are too dopey to accept that it is a better system.  Some just don't get that improvement doesn't equal insulting our forebearers...

The one bright spot is that scientists have been there for decades.

Perhaps you should go back to using only Roman numerals, as in todays global environment, you may feel obliged to cease using arabic numerals...

Ah, but you are illustrating the folly of the system.  You've reduced it to base 10 anyway.  You said .308 instead of  77/250ths of an inch.

Thou art a closet fan of base 10...

Pushback.

Kinda like Susan B. Anthony dollars.

Sometimes the government tries to lead, but the people won’t follow.

Americans are just ornery people!!

All your base 10 are belong to us...

I say we go back to base 60. Yay Sumeria!

If it's good enough for our system of keeping time, it's good enough for everything else.

If we convert to metric, shouldn't we make an effort to convert our timekeeping system also, just to have everything on the same base?

The Metric system adoption movement was a driven by anti-american forces... had the US agreed to switch over quickly it would have been devastating to the US manufacturing industry and given greater leverage to European and Asian manufacturers.

There is an analogous movement today in the form of the Kyoto treaty, which would similarly cripple our industrial base.
