Assuming that GWB wins 4 more years....it is pretty obvious that Hillary will be the next democratic candidate for the presidency, come 2008.

She will have 2-3 years of the spotlight...and whateer people dont know her name today will certainly know it by then.

Cheney has already made it pretty clear that he isnt running for office in 2008 (which is a shame, because the guy is probably the most qualified of the field)

Republicans need to get some faces out into the public...so that when the time comes to rally behind a candidate...the popularity contest has some balance.

I cant possible imagine a world in which Hillary is the president of my country... I sincerely hope that the party has some aces ready to take over when the time comes.

What are your predictions for the GOP candidate in 2008?

A Rice / Clinton race would be an interesting one.

I don't agree with a lot of his political positions...but he is light years more to the right than the socialist bitch Clinton.  She is a true believer...a fellow traveler.

Rudi can kick her ass.  Not sure if any of the others mentioned here have the "star power" to bring the ladies' votes to our side.

Cheney stepping down is a serious possibility, as well a politically smart move for the Republicans.

I can't see changing the VP halfway through an administration with 2, possibly 3 wars going on just to set up the next cantidate for the 2008 election. Especially when the party feels that they have plenty of "viable" contenders without setting up a temporary VP.
