just spoke to my supplier. due to an arrangement made this summer, my price is capped at 1.49 a gallon through the winter. current daily price is already 1.66 and expected to cliimb.
 not sure i remember it any higher than that....could be a rough winter for a lot of people. |

This is a bit off-topic but right gasoline prices are supposed to drop for me here in L.A., and prices for heating oil around the USA is supposed to go up, but gasoline for me has gone up by $0.04 to a price of $2.14/gal unleaded.

Was in Philadelphia over the weekend, gasoline was $1.79 or so.....here in Mid-Michigan it's around $1.93.

Our house is one of them new-fangled ones that's all electric. We pay 2.8 cents per Kwh. We have 2 wood burning stoves for back-up that we've never used. Must buy generator to be on the safe side though.

you warm weather folk sure are something...
 in my area it seems to depend on the age and the location as to natural gas or oil. my place was built in the late 50s in what was a somewhat rural area at the time. i dont think the infrastructure existed at that time for natural gas. actaully, the original heating set up was coal or wood fired boiler with water fed radient baseboard heat. conversion to oil fired was made about 15 years ago. several years ago oil was around a 1.00 a gallon and actually cheaper than natural gas for winter heat. not sure what will happen this year. some of the natural gas people i know claim to have taken a beating over the last coupel years. and yes...there is a big tank in the basement. although i've also seen them outside the house. typical size for home use is in the 200-300 gallon range. can probably figure on two or three fills for the season in a normal winter. |

Natural gas is a relatively recent thing, 15-20 years ago in some case, much newer in others. My home was built in 1959 and has oil fired hot water baseboard heat and my hot water goes through the furnace. IMHO it's a damn fine way to heat a house (hot water baseboard that is). I hate heat pumps and electric heat. With heat pumps you're either hot or cold and with electric heat the air is completely dry leading to cracked lips in the morning and adry tuffy nose. It's also one of the cheapest ways to heat water (to 170 degrees in my case). There's a 550gallon tank burried in my back yard.

most recent price here is 1.81...a 15 cent increase in a week. expected to go over 2.00 once demand really starts to increase. no one at the supplier ever remembered that happening before.

I live in the boonies, no natural gas so I use propane and I'm paying $1.50 per gallon now. It'll most likely go up as soon as it starts getting really cold up here. My heating bill will be around $1500 to $2000 this year.

2.219 for "stove oil" AKA no. 2 kerosene.
It is a grade higher than "fuel oil." Don't know what "fuel oil" is going for. |

Just paid $1.77 a gallon for home heating oil today. I call around first and some people were already charging over $2.00.
87 octane gasoline in my area is around $2.14+ I live around 1 1/2 hrs from NYC, where prices are a little higher. Man, I fuckin' hate NY and it's taxes. Can't wait to get out. |
