My wife wanted me to post this here to get the ARFcom opinion about teenagers trick-or-treating at Halloween.  We're not talking about older kids taking their little brothers/sisters around the neighborhood.  I'm talking about the high-school age kids that don't dress up and go door-to-door looking for handouts.  We always get groups of high school kids at our door with no costumes, just regular clothes.

I usually have a separate bowl of boullion cubes and soy sauce packets that I give to the older, non-costumed kids.  My wife says that it is mean.  My feeling is that Halloween is for little kids, not the twerps who are old enough to buy their own damn candy.

Opinions?

your house is going to get egged unless you stay up most of the night.

They say trick or treat for a reason.

What a grinch, as long as they are behaving themselves and not out trashing your neighborhood what is the problem? Should they go out busting windows and TPing houses because it is more age apropriate?

Um, they usually get the candy then go do that stuff.

You better wake up early to hose the egg off your car and house.

Give the punks a piece of candy .

I can think of  much worse things that teenage kids could be doing.

I'm in college and because I am so damn poor I will be trick-or-treating this year.  So help me God if anyone says anything...whew...I dont even want to imagine what I will do to them.

If I were to trick or treat this year, I would definitely dress up. Not overly crazy, but something.

And whats up with all the little kids that dont even trick or treat anymore? Is this what the world has come to?

You can also give out Ex-lax as candy.

If they have some sort of costume I think its alright, but if they just go door to door in plain clothes I dont know...I might just give it to them so your house doesnt get TP'd or egged.

i figure i'm not spending more than 5 bucks on candy any to give away.  The little kids come and go before any older kids show up anyway........so no real harm in giving the candy away to older kids unless its a financial hardship And last year i had 5 yeah thats right 5 whole kids come to my door total!

Definatly agree with you. I remember that one year I felt embarrased to go out in a costume. So I wore my costume (camo) to scare kids.

i never understood why high school kids go tricker treating i stopped when i was 10 so we moved to the suburbs and i was given out candy to the kids while my parents took my brother and sis tricker treating when people from my high school come up and are all dressed up.

I am like wtf havent they grown up yet. Trick or treating is for little kids if you are in high school you dont belong doing it get a job and learn some god damn responsbility. No wonder alot of kids today are losers they never grow up at all.

I hand out beer to the adults from my neighborhood....I keep getting more and more  parents coming to my house each year....

Kids who live on my street get full sized candybars and a special bag of treats...all other kids who get bussed in from other cities and neighborhoods (parents run them from neighborhood to neighborhood in vans) get the standard Halloween candy.

ETA,  bigger kids with no costumes get ONE piece of candy...usually a pixie stick or a tootsie roll. Something small.

I never get any trick or treaters out here where I live. So I don't buy candy. But if I get surprised by one I would hand out quarters.

No way would I give any candy to someone who didn't have a costume on - and I'd damn sure be willing to stay up all night and watch my place to stand by that conviction.

"Just give them some candy" is BS.

If they can down a shot of cheap-ass tequila without sputtering or any other physical reaction, I give'em a tootsie roll.  Otherwise I tell'em its a county ordnance that nobody over 10 can trick-or-treat.

Maybe they didn't get to trick-or-treat when they were little? Have your wife hand them candy and you come around the corner with a chain saw(with out chain of course) and scary mask. That would scare them and also tell them not to do anything to your house or you'll put the chain back on!

If they don't have a costume on, they don't jack from me.

2 years ago i went out, it was alot of fun.  I went to houses of people I know (maybe 10 houses) and got some great stuff and enjoyed the walk.  BTW I was 38 at the time.

If they have costumes on and are out having fun and behaving then everyone gets a treat ... I'd rather be the guy on the block that hands out a few candy bars to a couple of older kids once a year than the guy on the block that gets his house egged the rest of the year.
