Friday night my daughter was coming home from a friend's house when a large doe made the fatal mistake of of thinking that she knew how to drive. Wrong! Short story: grill, hood, fender, radiator, fan shroud, and some small parts are now on the top of her Christmas wish list.

Since her truck was about 40 miles away I wasn't able to get up there to check it out until after work tonight (Monday). Mrs Jeep29 was driving us home and who would have though it, another damn doe runs right out in from of the van and the wifey whacks it. Being the "Be Prepared" Boy Scout that I am I jumped out and double tapped Bambi with two to the head and dragged her off the road. No damage to the van but wifey was pretty torn up about it.

Two deer down and the rutt hasn't even started yet. I think its going to be a long season.

As fast as I could aim  and shoot.

Has archery season started there?

That could explain the increased movement.

Nope. Left them with the people we were staying with. They needed the meat more than we did. We brought back one of the six we shot. My dad, brother and I. I shot four that season.

OK, here they are. Two 9mm Federal 135gr Hyroshocks finished what a Plymouth Minivan started.

Jeep29: I'm glad all of the damage is repairable and is confined to the automobile. I've heard that people has been seriously hurt due to collisions with deers.

Well at least you got proof it really was a deer.

Looks as if one hydroshock would have been enough.

BUT we haven't seen his DD-214,  proof of citizenship or his mother's birth certificate.  Therefore, I'm calling on this blatantly embellished tale.

So, when did "van" season open, anyway?  How many can you take during a single season?

Depends on whether you have a commercial license or just a registered assault vehicle.

Damn, my wife was talking to a friend last night when "I've got to go, my husband just hit a deer" ended the converstion. Bow season has been in for three weeks now and it got cool early this years so they may be getting In The Mood. I guess night driving is going to be at your own risk for the next several weeks.

One of my friends said I shouldnt shoot Bambi (he thought I meant a fawn, not a full-grown), I told him that in this area, its either a 168gr .30cal hollow point, or the bumper of my SUV, but either way a deer is likely to be killed by me this year.  And with the bumper, I dont get nearly as much jerky.

What part of KY are you in?  I'm tring to find some good hunting land and it sounds like you have plenty of deer where you are at.

This spring I could tell the deer season was going to get really bad.  On I-64 between Georgetown and Frankfort there was at least 1 fawn killed per day on the road.  Just starting this week the full grown deer are starting to get hit on that same stretch of road.  It must be the cold snap that has them moving.

Christian County, right outside of Ft Campbell. Deer are thick around here. Unfortunately there is an abundance of Posted and No Tresspassing signs too. If land owners were a bit more hunter friendly it might help keep the population down but I don't see it happening.

In most states you must register the first deer before hunting for a second one.  If you were shooting them as pests on your friend's apple farm then all bets are off.  Did you stretch any game laws?

Rabbit hunting is safer.

That reminds of the year that I told the kids that I caught the Easter Bunny and fed him to one of my boa constrictors. They didn't cry, but watched the snake for a week, because I told them the poop would come out a rainbow of pastel colors.

Wisconsin. To my knowledge there are no such restrictions. The guy at the registration station didn't seem to mind either. I shot four deer that year. I think they all went on my tags. Party hunting (sharing tags) is legal there.

The game wardens here attempt to find even the smallest of infractions to nail your ass.  It's a 'Presumed-Guilty' atmosphere any time they are around.
