Ok, I like to play video games (simcity 4 is one) and prolly some video editing and I need a graphics card.  Which of these would be better.  I know 128 MB would be better than 64 but would 64 still be able to run most games on high resolution or not?

Pine XFX GeForce4 MX440 8x AGP 64 MB Graphics Card

I can get them both for about the same price so  need to know which is better, I know very little about graphics cards. 64 MB might not play games too well, but it is probably still a better card isnce it is a good company and it's a geforce4 but if 64 MB won't play most games at full res then I would go with the other.

Of the two cards listed I would go with the ATI card.

I would go with the NVIDIA card (the geforce) I have had nothing but bad news out of my Radeon 8500.  I actually switched back to my GF2 MX400 64 because its more stable

Sorry ATI means The Radeon.  The mx is a really stripped graphics card.  Neither of these cards would be the best bet for the current generation of games though, ie, DOOM3, Tribes and at somepoint HL2.

Well, I know.  I can't get one very expensive.  I may play stuff like warcraft 3, simcity4, operation flashpoint, stuff like that.  I will also do video editing and DVD watching.  I want one that is stable but that I can play games on and is not much more than $50

What do you have now?  Of the 2 you listed, the Radeon is the better card.  Only trouble with ATI (the company that makes the Radeon chipset) cards is the numbering system is NOT easy to figure out...sometimes, the lower model cards wil outperform the higher number cards.  A 9200 is not *necessarily* better than a 9000, for instance.  You have to look at the memory timings, etc.  It can get quite confusing.  As for the NVidia cards, try to avoid anything with "MX" in the model #.  These cards are pretty castrated in terms of video pipeline and other stuff from their non mx counterparts.  

A video card is only part of the chain, though...a marginal video card upgrade to a PIII system would be a waste of money, imho.  Bare bones minimum in my book for gaming these days is an Athlon 1800xp system w/ at least 256mb of ram, and a Radeon 9000, or GeForce 4 non MX card.  The newer games coming out now want LOTS of video power.  

As you switch to the more powerful cards, you may have a potential power problem....I've had to replace power supplies in several of my computers when moving up the the 9800s and GeForce 4s.  You need a certain amount of power on specific rails of the power supply to run higher end processors and graphics cards...usually a 400w or higher model power supply will work, but not always; some better brands have the power you need in a 300w model.  

If you stick with the lower end Radeons and Geforce MX cards, you won't have that problem...but you might not be getting much of an upgrade with those, depending on what you're running now.  Let us know what you're running now....

The funny thing is this macine was given to me by my uprade-happy cousins because it is made of parts they replaced.  It has a geforce 4 in it but it is FRIED due to a game of DOOM3!  So as of right now I have no graphics card.  So i'm not upgrading an existing card, I just need a graphics card.

given the two choices and your price range, you absolutely made the right choice. the radeon is much better than the nvidia.

If you want to play and 3d games both cards wont cut it.

For 100-150 Range you can get:

Nvidia 5700 Ultra
or Better
Ati 9800 Pro

For 300+

You Can get:
Nvidia 6800 Gt or Ultra
or
Ati X800 Pro or XT

That's not too bad of a deal, you picked the best of the two that were listed there.
If it were me, I'd pay 65.00 and order a radeon 9600 with 128 megs of ram from Newegg.com

If you want to do video editing it has been my experience that you will have less trouble with a Nvidia based card, for gaming either will work.
