It's so sweet to carry and I'm ready for everthing. Short easy to carry with a 1 x 4 leopold. Very accurate to 100 yard cloverleafs. I use it for everything including rabbits. I just shoot em in the head just like I would with a 22. It doesn't damage the meat that way and I love to feel that thump and hear that big thunder. Most fun I've ever had with a gun.

I'd reload em. Keep the charges on the light side, and cast my own bullets. Buy a suitable surplus powder by the keg, and you are good to go.

I haven't spent more than $1 per round since I did a comparison between Federal GMM and my handloads. I didn't even finish the box. My handoads won hands down, and thet costed about as much as a game of Ms. Pac-Man.

My dad had a 45-70 "Quigley Down Under" replica rifle. That thing was a fun gun to shoot, but the cost of ammo eventually prompted him to sell it. Paying $18-23 for a box of 20 was not so fun.

That guide gun is a beautiful rifle.

I'd love to have one but really have no reason for one except that I think they are really cool.

I like my 44mag trapper for now (it will have to do).

I have the same one in stainless steel.
I love it.
My shoulder took a pounding and I started to develop a flinch the first time I went to the range. I had to call it quits after about a box and a half.

Most people including myself don't like optics on a lever guns but I'll succumb soon enough.
I think an Eotech would be perfect for the Guide Gun when you consider it's intended purpose.
I just can't wait for all the heckling from my buddies.

Mine is stainless also so I put it away without even cleaning it. Have a Pachy decelarator on it. Just wipe it down and stick it in the closet.
I reload so its more like $8 per box. Also, who cares? Even at $16 per box, I am lucky to get 3 shots at rabbits in a day in the snow and I don't miss with this setup. So for less than $5.00 or so, it doesn't really matter and it sure is more fun to hunt them with a 45-70!!!!!! I just grab their hindlegs and step on the head and pull it off to bleed em. Then I rip the skin off and gut em, wash on cold water and ready to cook. YEEEHAAAAW

Please don't ruin your nice gun by not cleaning it. If you want , you can send it to me and I'll make sure it is well cleaned after I shoot it.

Nothing to the body. The head may or may not have a large hole/chunk out of it depending how its hit, but who cares? Sometimes they are still alive. I rip the head off immediatelyt after the shot anyway to bleed them out. I use soft point 300 grain. It will put a pretty clean hole thru the head and blow a chuck out the back if it hits it square. My technique is.... hold the rabbit by the hind legs and step on the head. Pull on the legs and rip the head off. Humane and quick. I may go squirrel hunting with it next. Who knows. Great all around gun.

You mean a Sharps? 45-70 or 45-90?

No need for optics as after 150 or so yards the bullet drops like a slow pitch softball!!
