What the hell are these?

My father thinks they are woolly aphids. I've googled them and found a myriad of information, but none of the pictures look quite like these things. Descriptions sound correct, though.

So, what the hell?

ETA: Added another video at the top of page 2!

Desert Eagle 50.

Take in a sample to your County Extension Office.  If they can't identify them right there, they can send them in to be indentified by a State Entomologist.

Don't burn them!  Doing so would likely lead to an intergalactic war.

Yeah, that's in the works already. One of the pages I read said the county extension office needed to be notified of any sightings of woolly aphids.

My fiance decided I should post it here, 'cause y'all provide hours of entertainment on the weirdest damn things.

Do they eat plant leaves, or brains?

If they eat plant leaves, I'd probably either leave 'em alone or spray them with pesticide depending on the type of leaves they eat.

If they eat brains, I'd run.  It doesn't look like they could go fast enough to catch me.

(I don't know what they are but felt like being a smartass anyway)

Yeah.  They cover you in a web and suck the life out of you.

they seem rather large for wooly aphids and are on the wrong species of tree... cant think of anything else they would be though...

I seen the same thing down in south Mississippi this weekend and wondered the same thing. I grew up down there and have never seen such a thing in all my life.

Bump for the morning/day crew.

This video is a little out of focus, and kinda creepy because of that.
