I just read,the now locked thread, on the goals for the site.A topic that turned to a brawl in little time.

The mods here, do a great job of making sure the site remains a place where gun owners of all types,genders,nationalities,races,ages,etc can come to learn and teach about firearms,ammo,ballistics,etc. as well as to buy,sell and swap equipment/guns.
To do so,we need some kind of order.Otherwise,we will be another "Tower of Babbel"

I believe the goal of the forums,other than general Discussion (GD) is pretty clear.
If you want/need a goal for the site,you can easily extract it from the above description of what the mods do here.I hate the beaurocratic crap of "Mission Statements" and other non-sensical BS that I deal with everyday.

I wish the goal and mission of GD were as simple to explain.

As an aside,I should state that it is not infrequently asked in the staff/mods forum, why we even have a GD,seeing that most of our problems stem from topics in Gneral Dscussion !
it seems that GD stands for General Dissorder when some in the crowd get restless and turn into forum agitators.
It seems that these people, want answers to questions that are probably irrelevant to their posting.
Like asking on a gun board why they can't post pictures of nude women/men or ask how to convert an AR15 into an M16 without the trouble of going through legal channels.
The fact is that when you join this and any other board you agree to abide by the rules..........regardless of whether you understand the reasoning behind the rules, or not.

in this particular instance we have a rule (not mine,but i respect it) that says "no nudity" briefly referred to as "no nip,no lip".THAT IS THE RULE.
And regardless of the rule being there because we are puritans or members of a religious sect that forbids it...........THAT IS THE RULE!

Back to why we have a GD.
Because,despite the fact that we primarily talk about guns on this board,the GD offers a lot of us the opportunity to ask how to fix noisy brakes in our car,get opinion on marital issues,or ask what people like to drink or eat........thus the populararity of the "dinner threads".

It is not the goal,mission or desire of the administration of this site to have porn or nudity,and so if you want to look at nudes in art:GO TO A MUSEUM! And if you want to look at porn: GO TO ONE OF THE NUMEROUS PORN SITES ON THE NET!

Obviously -or perhaps not so obviously- we are not offended by nudity in art or in real life.But we happen to believe that the board needs rules, and if we make "ART" an exception to the NO nudity/porn rule,then we will be arguing why YOUR PICTURE is not considered art.Similarly,sex is great. But the board is not the place to discuss what you did to whom, and then to show pictures of it! You know,the provervial "stuff her in the pooper and post pictures" kind of thing.

Guys,rules are rules and you don't always have to know why they are in place.All we ask is that you follow OUR RULES.But if you don't, the mods/staff are here to make sure they ARE followed.

I hope this answered some of your questions on why some topics get locked.

I am not entirely sure we can get in trouble for illegal things being discussed/advocated on the site.Even if those who would indite us were wrong in doing it,we would still need to spend a ton of $$ defending ourselves and the site, from going to jail or closing operations.We would rather use the money for other things and not risk the site being shut down.

The racial thing is a different matter.Because, even if we were assured it would not get us in legal trouble, we have strong moral convictions that would not allow us to stand by while someone else is being "raked over the coals" for the mere reason of their race,gender,etc.
