Looking at the Ford Excursion, heard different things about it, anyone have any opinions. Or should I just get a Suburban

I wouldn't get a Ford. I'd pick the Suburban.

BTW, big SUV's are considered terrorism here in liberal Austin.

Depends on the engine, because there is no way in hell I would own a gas-burning Excursion.

Unless you really need the size of the Excursion, don't buy it. Those things are so damned big they border on the rediculous.

The Excursion gets bad gas mileage.  Get the Sub instead

Expedition. I have one and absolutely love it.

If I had the money though I'd get a VW Toureg with the diesel. THAT is a sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet ride.

Check out Toyota Sequoias and 4Runners, well built with lots of options for the price.

I don't like suburbans anymore because I can't fit in the back or middle row.  To damn close to the front seats.  I have to sit like a frog, it is very uncomfortable.  (The front seats however, are very comfortable.)

My dad has an Expedition that I fit in very nicely and he absolutely loves it, check those out too.

If you want or need big, get the excursion.  Prefereably get one with a diesel engine, especially if you are going to tow with it, OTOH if you just want one for riding around the V10 is an option.

For you gas meizers out there...it's a fucking building on wheels, of course it doesn't get 40mpg, but it will surely crush your painty waisted civic in micro seconds. Viva la crumple zones!

for the price of an excursion or expedition, you could get a Porsche Cayenne

Holy shit that is sweet!

No chance.

*edit*
Unless you either 1) Get ROBBED on the price of an Expy or 2) Get a basemodel suck ass Cayenne.
Usually a combination of both 1 and 2.

*edit again*
But yes, it is VERY sweet!!!

Excursions are FAR better vehicles than Suburbans. Besides, for those of you unable to read the model number on the Chevy, its a 3/4 ton also, if you want the long wheelbase big block, albeit a lightweight 3/4 ton.

the only place i see them is at the grocery store...driven by women.

Excursion is based on the super duty P/Us. It's as big as a F250.
They are huge on the inside.
Intended to compete with the 2500 Suburban.
When it first came out, it was cheaper than buying an Expedition. The sticker on the loaded model was in the low forties. I thought they were being discontinued. Personally, I'd go with the F250, if I were buying a Ford.

Ford stopped making Excursions for a reason.

I don't service them in my shop anymore ever since one bent one of my lifts.

Transmission in the 3/4 Chev's is hands down one of the best transmissions made (4L80E).
The Ford's has improved (4R100) but is big dollers if she goes. Don't get a 1/2 ton Suburban, especially if you are going to tow, they won't cut it, engine or trans.

The Rule: Always change your transmission fluid every 12000-15000 miles no matter what your owners manual says!!

I have a Suburban but I want a diesel Excursion.  The Suburban just isn't big enough for me, the family and all our stuff on a trip.

I would love a 4Runner, or land Rover, or a number of trucks that size, (much to small for work) but I'm looking for a nice truck for work, sort of tired if my pickups

I own an Expidition and love it!

I thinks it has better interior than the Chevy's and comes with more features.

Plus it was better gearing in the gears which gives it more pulling power.

Gas mileage sucks HARD!!

10mpg or less.

I bought a 2004 Excursion Limited with a 6.0 power stroke diesel back in May. I have about 4200 miles on it now and couldn't be happer with it.  It's the largest SUV out of the top auto manufactures. I can haul 8 adults in this thing with total comfort. Around town I've been getting about 15 MPG. On a highway trip from NY to NJ I got 22 MPG. With the diesel this things beats just about any other Large SUV out there and many smaller gasser models..  :) It wieghs over 8000 lbs wet and has a 5 speed automatic. It has a range of between 800 and 900 miles if you're doing straight highway. The fuel tank holds an impressive 44 gals!

Hard to beat the Excursion with the diesel if you need something big.

My parents *just* bought an '04 Expedition, Eddie Bauer package. Nice vehicle.  Has the DVD playa.

My wife and I own an '03 Explorer XLT 4.0L V-6. Also an excellent vehicle. Hwy mileage is about 21mpg.

If you need something the size on the Excursion nothing else compares.  Just get the diesel.  Most people who have them love them.

Must be a combination of your being Catholic, your horrible driving habits, and the Kali gasoline. I have a 4.6L Super Crew 4x4 that weighs over 5,000lbs. I drie primarily in the city and like and asshole (always) and I still manage to get 14-15mpg on a bad day. 17mpg +/- on the road depending on terrain. A 5.4 should only be 1-2mpg less than that.
