Quick!!! please - AR15.COM

I just got my wrench to take of my post ban collapseble stock and put on my no ban collapsable and for the life of me I cant loosen it. I believe it may be lock tighted. Its a RRA. I have some Liquid wrench but im not sure if it will take the finish of or not, will it? thanks.

Check to make sure it is not staked. If it is not, just use some elbow grease and that thing should come right off.

If loctite is believe to be involved, heat with a propane torch or a lighter to breakdown the loctite. Were talking heat it up, not make it glow.

I put a cresant wrench at the end of the buffer tube and just ripped it off ( of course counter clockwise)

Is that the one in which three pins engage three notches in the nut. The single pin one that only engages one pin into one notch of the nut will not enable you to put enough torque on the nut.

The one with the one notch is called a spanner wrench and it will not work with the new type castle nuts. You need one of these www.bushmaster.com/shopping/gunsmith/223-telewrench2.asp

I presume you got a new castle nut with your new collapsible.

If you do not care about the old non-collabsible, you can use a big ole pipe wrench and get the old castle nut off.

Do the standard installation drill of the new collapsible.

The single pin wrench can tighten the new castle nut down sufficiently until you get the right wrench.

When you do get the right wrench, tighten down with just a bit of BLUE loctite.

My RRA was tight enough to trash the wrench.

I switched to a bicycle spanner that worked better anyway.

Good grief. Your spanner wrench will work, but the one with 3 'nubs' will make your life easier.

For now, take a punch and a hammer and see if you can get the castle nut to move. Then you can use the spanner wrench to undo the castle nut.

Get yourself a punch that is small enough to fit into one of the slots and tap it with a hammer until it moves. Once you loosen it up, use that spanner wrench you have to undo the castle nut.

I should have clarified my previous response. You can use a spanner wrench, but it is not as good as the 3-prong. Right tool for the right job you know. If you are really desperate and cannot wait, leverage is your friend. Vise the lower and take the spanner and insert say a 3 ft. section of lead pipe on the handle. With that much torque that sucker will break loose.

get an Armorer's Wrench the one with the tele-stock wrench on it, cause there is a nice 1/2" square hole on it that a 1/2" breaker bar will fit into. and a lower receiver vice block.
