Little-Known Historical Tidbit:
Rap has been around for considerably longer than most folks acknowledge – for most of the 20th century, in fact. The key factor in its current popularity occured in the early 80's, when it was "discovered" by the popular media. Prior to that, it was only heard at sports events, where it was commonly referred to as a "cheer": Hey, hey, whaddaya say Take dat bitch de udderway Hit 'em high, hit 'em low Hit 'em in da tootsie roll Dat's allright, dat's ok We gon' waste ya anyway |

My favorite C"RAP" artist are ones who died or are going to soon!

What the fuck is this "rap" thing y'all are talking about. It sure ain't nothing like "Rock And Roll" so it must be some other kind of stuff. I've heard some and I'd classify it as manic-depressant KISS with a hangover.
Perhaps its a new form of entertainment which we can call "Urban-whining with nauseating Bass-distortion and threats against police which never pan out because you always end up busted you loser". |
|
"Somebody say hey we want some...." never mind I'm a old married guy with 2 kids now. 2 live crew Run DmC GAP Band (not really rap but) Newclius(sp?)-"jam on it" (the whole album was good) Beastie Boys (first Album Onley!!!) |

TOO SHORT |
|
I cannot imagine anyone living outside South Central LA (or some other choice piece of ghetto real estate) who gives a rat's rear about rap music!
It is the absolute worst sound that has ever been identified as 'music' on this planet. It is the Culture of the High School Dropout. And I don't give a damn if you have a Harvard MBA hanging on the wall of your trashed out bedroom in your momma's house, it's still cultural illiteracy written in large letters. Eric The(So,There!)Hun |
|
It was always about Rock and Roll for us, and usually a little harder than that, but I did tolerate Tone Loc (however ya spell him) "Wild thang"...And some old beastie boys, but its hard to take AC/DC out of the deck, and put that crap in.

ALL RAP SUCKS TOTALLY, COMPLETELY, AND ABSOLUTELY.
End of story. CJ |

My list of 5 best 80's rap songs, in no particular order
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five: "The Message" Grandmaster Melle Mel: "White Lines" Sugarhill Gang: "Rapper's Delight" Newcleus: "Jam On It" (remember break dancers?) Rock Master Scott and The Dynamic Three: "The Roof Is On Fire" (yeah.. the one that goes "... we don't need no water let the M***** F***** Burn!" Can you tell I'm getting ready for my 20th High School reunion this fall? |

Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock were pretty darned good too: "It takes two to make a thing go right..."
However, I don't really consider that "mellow" shit rap. It's falls more in line with hip-hop, whatever. I hope that whenever I get as old as some of you guys, I'm not so sour to new sounds. I don't condone any of the messages that most rappers put out...but many rappers are pretty intelligent into how the world operates from a common sense perspective. MUCH MORE than most of my WHITE friends who were raised in their "perfect" little world. Not that all whites are that way, I'm not generalizing...shit, I fall into the white male trap every time I fawkin try to get a high paying job. Ok...back to the point (sorry for the tangent)...listen to some Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, etc...if you can get past all of the BASS, then there are some pretty good stories being told. I dare say, usually much more creative than most Country music. However, Rock'n'Roll will always be better than rap, IMHO....but that doesn't mean that ALL RAP SUCKS. Open up your eyes guys...you're so uptight about the gansta driving by bumpin' some tunes that you haven't let yourself experience the new world. Max |
|
I just remembered another old skool rap group....NEMESIS. Great BASS tunes back in the day. Can't remember if they are pre-1992 though, either way, they're old compared to now.
I think NEMESIS is from Dallas.... |
|
My hatred of rap has nothing to do with any "messages" or whatever. If I want a message, I'll read a book or something. I don't pay any attention to lyrics in music. I simply hate the way it sounds. I hate disco music too, but after not being subjected to it for about 15 years, all the while having to tolerate rap, I decided that disco was at least "music". Don't take it so hard that lots of people can't stand rap. Lots of people can't stand the music I like, but I couldn't care less! |
