I dont get it either.
Sorta same thing happening here. Opposition leader says if he wins, he will move a Regiment from a Sydney barracks to up north. Problem is, that Regiment deals with counter terrosism for Sydney... |

He would have to lower the standards quite a bit to do that in any significant amount of time, IMHO. Oops, I forgot the funshow circuit. Lots of experienced operators to be found in the beef jerky aisle. My bad...

The funny thing about the Kerry statement of two new divisions and doubling of the special forces is the special forces part. Isn't the failure rate for getting into any of them way high? Seems he'd have to double the size of the military and let them apply, then when 90% of them couldn't hack it he'd have to fire the rest to get back down to only two divisions up.

He is aslo planning on dropping Haliburton/ KBR immediately. Great idea. Talk about not having a plan. I don't think any other company has the size or the experience to simply walk in and take oer. That move would pretty much kill all the logistic in theater. Not a good idea.

Want to double the size of SOF in a hurry? That’s easy... Take two Ranger Battalions, the only two rescue units left in the Air Force, let SOCOM absorb them, and bingo... you just doubled the size of your SOF force.

Raising re-enlistment/re-up bonuses and stress pay for SF MOS's might help retention. I don't know how high they currently are, but Blackwater at $200K is probably hard to resist when you're making $50K-$60K tops with Uncle Sugar.

Kerry needs to get a clue.
If his fellow democrap party crony Clinton et al hadn't made all the military cuts that they did while he was president (yes, the small p was intentional ), we'd still have the manpower. Instead, military funding took a beating. With all the cuts, we became an inviting target to all of those that would be our enemy.The democrats and their cuts invited all of the carnage and tragedy that we have suffered in recent years. But they will never understand, nor take responsibility for their well-intentioned, but misguided thinking. World Trade Center bombing (I), what did Clinton do? Pretty much nothing. Somalia? Kept our militarys hands tied, hence Mogadishu. If our boys had had the armor that they had requested, BHD probably never would have happened. When shit happens, and there's a republican President in sitting, the hounds of hell are unleashed. World Trade Center II, Bush sends our boys and girls to break heads. Libyan terrorists blow up Americans in a German discotheque, President Reagan sends gifts via express delivery. The big brown truck ain't got nothin' on an F-111!  It's quite easy to distinguish a republican from a democrat Democrat- kisses ass Republican- kicks ass They sound similar, so it's understandable why the democrats get confused.

Double the size of the SF?
Best we could do is create a National Guard or Reserve Ranger Regiment, and maybe one or two more NG SF groups. This would allow us to retain more of them, by allowing them to leave and take hi paying Civy jobs AND still have them somewhat in the system where we can access them. Cause right now they are going to places like Blackwater and they are BEYOND recall. |

We are adding about 40,000 new Army and Marines this fiscal year. We cannot double SF without seriously diluting the SF.

I didn't get to see but a few minutes of the debate. The part I did catch was Kerry bitchin we were too tight on manpower and Bush had to install a backdoor draft to support the war. In the same 90 second babble he's going to send in more troops.
Did I hear this correctly? Where was he going to get them from?

SF is already recruiting weapons and Engineering specialists right off the street. Still have to pass Q and specialty training, but the maturity level required is down a bit.
The Air Force opened the Special Tactics Squadron MOS's up to officers a few years ago. They decided that these units really do need some officers to go to bat for them. Most SF level units have 80% or better failure rates. Some classes end before the cycle because everyone dropped out or failed out. The last time they tried to expand SF too fast was in Vietnam resulting in some serious problems with troop quality and some real dubious psychologies that needed weeding out afterwards. We don't want that again. Kerry doesn't mean ANYTHING he says though, he doesn't have to since he's just a candidate and has no real record of accomplishing anything but being against stuff. |
