I thought it was an excellent movie, the depiction of life at sea in 1805 was very well done and the special effects of the ship battles were very good.

what was it that they kept showing the cook make for the Captain? it looked like some type of cake?
in a special silver pan? was it some type of special English tea cake or something?

Put me down as unimpressed.  I liked the special effects, but then ending was bad...to be continued next week?

I enjoy movies that show how life was back in times like that in a realistic way. Good movie anyhow, but good movie for that itself.

The movie is good and the books are even better. There is a whole series about the explorations and adventures of the Captain and Doctor.

It's part of a series, like Star Wars or The Matrix...

To be continued in the inevitable sequel...

It was a good movie, but didn't hold up against other good movies from last fall/winter, like Kill Bill Vol. 1, Open Range, Mystic River, Return of the King, etc...

Worth watching, though.

Take it from someone who spent 28 years in the Navy, the movie is very correct about all things nautical.  I really liked it for that reason alone...but I also liked it overall.  Good yarn.

No on the Kill Bill?  I guess it would be considered late summer, not fall.  It was in theaters last August, IIRC.

Mystic River sucked IMO.

Dug Master and Commander though.

Own it, liked it, but I have one thing to say to Russell Cowe:

Captain Crunch called, and he wants his clothes back!

Where do you think they got the uniform design for the 'Cap'n Crunch' cartoon character from?

watching the movie was like going back in time and re-living history, I can imagine how hard life must have been for a sailor out at sea in the old days, it was a rough life, they were brave men.

the part that didnt look right was after their ship sustained so much battle damage, they fixed it back up so perfectly that it looked too good, because in real life it would take some major over hauling to fix that type of damage, something that they could only repair back at the port or dry dock, because of the heavy damage from the cannon fire.

they didnt have enough supplies to do that much repair? I rememmber the Commander saying something about finding a tree to make a new mast?
