I tend to like the 999 better. I would love to have a 999RFila model, but I would be afraid to ride it. They are way out of my league price wise, so for a v-twin sportbike I'll probably be looking for a used clean Honda RC51. Maybe in a few years the 999 used will come into my price range, or I could wait a little less time and get a 749 Dark used in a few years.

900 SS Superlight. Bright yellow, Half fairing, All sexy. Getting rid of my first wife was easy, giving up my Superlight was the hardest thing I've ever done. |

The 999 looks like complete shit.
Pierre Terblanche fucked up a perfectly good motorcycle for no reason at all. They should have shot his dog. Now the WSB version bodywork of the 999 looks ok, the MotoGP bodywork looks better. |

I went to our duc dealer and sat on a brand new 998. Sticker was about, $16,000+ way out of my league. I'd most likely die within the first 5 minutes of owning it though haha.

The last Duc I rode was a 916, and that was some time ago. Between the 999 and 998, I like the looks of the 998 better. My next bike will probably be an Aprilia RSV1000R Factory.

Local papers had a 999R for sale with 40km's on it. Im willing to bet good money some rich guy bought it and it was waaaay too powerful for him.

I just sold a 2001 ST2 in March. Great bike, looked sweet, rode nice.
What made me sell it was the high maintenance costs. I'm now looking at a FJR1300 with 26k valve adjustment intervals  I'd still love to have a 996 to get out on every once in a while

i'll add my 2 cents worth. had a Duck F1. after i bought it i had Fast By Ferraci build the motor so it would take a good breath. so to speak. that lasted about 1 year. it cost way to much to keep it running. but the looks, sound, and feel of what a real light bike can do, nothing like it.
like so many others, i got married......end of story! be well maxwell |

Hell yes. A 999R. The only other bike would have to be an Agusta F4 1000 Tamburini.

I've had 3 Ducati's, but all of them were from the 1970's.
1973 Ducati 750SS(one of 200 made) Round case, beeeautifullllllll!!! 1977 Ducati 500(not great, but ok) 1974 Ducati 750GT. (nice, but chunky)Round case. 750SS Scarab brakes sucked, changed to Lockheed. Veglia instruments sucked, kept them anyway. Handled like a dream. Changed the bodywork on the GT to "Sport" bodywork, after lusting for my previously sold 750SS. The 500 was considered an "odd duck", but I put 100k miles on it, and it was reliable as hell. If I get back into motorcycling again, it will be an MV Agusta F41000. |

I had a Cagiva Alazura SS.........650cc
Also had a Cagiva Elefant.........650cc 1st Ducati was a Desmo 450cc dirt bike. |

3 Yammies will never equal one MV.
Just like 3 Dodge Vipers will never equal one Ferrari. There's more to it than just simple lap times. One is a thoroughbred Italian piece of artwork that performs. The other is the current crop of crotch-rocket. Maybe someday you'll understand. Also, the MV is close enough in performance to the R1, that it will be the riders which determine the outcome. The R1 is not decisively better. It's splitting hairs. Maybe 1/10th of a second difference in the quarter-mile, and a few pounds lighter. Not alot. |

Trust me, I understand. I just can't bring myself to drop $25k+ (about a third of what I make annually)on a bike, when I can spend a fraction on that for one that elicits the same "pucker factor". I have managed to prove this to more than a few of my trust-fund buddies on their high dollar equipment. But hey, whatever floats your boat! By the way, the YZF-R1 has 14 more horsepower, and weighs 44 lbs. less than an MV Agusta F41000S. That is a considerable difference. Choices, so many choices........
