me and "big hat" (brian, the guy we lost sat. night at gunstock) were sitting around sunday night drinking until about 4:30a.m. which was a really shitty idea to begin with since i had to be at work at 8......................

anyway, brian is 82nd airborne now and we were talking about how much i wanted to join and all the bullshit associated with it.  (basically, i can't join)  well anyway, about midway through a sentence brian takes out his pocketknife and cuts off his jump wings, and his airborne patches off the bdu's he's wearing

he hands me the patches and tells me, "i know you want to go and can't, so i want you to have a set of mine"

i don't know why, but that meant so damn much to me i can't even put it into words.  we'll miss you at gunstock big hat, Godspeed in afghanistan..............................

Good to hear, Tex.  I'm glad to know something like that means a lot to you.

Being as grateful as you are - that'll mean a lot to him.

Of course I am. I just wanted to lighten things up a bit. I hate to see a grown man cry.

There is something special about airborne.

0'dark 30.
C-130 bumping along at 200FT AGL
Bounce up to jump height.
Red light on.
Jump commands
rough weather.
150 lbs of shit (on a good day)
Dark as hell.
Every man in that plane willing to jump.
And thats WITHOUT people shooting at you.
Few rushes in the military (and I have done a lot of them) match a night jump.
A few friends of mine in regiment have knocked out some combat jumps the past few years.
there is no match to that.

TexRdnec, I can understand how much it meant to you. People don't realize what the wings really mean to those of us who have earned them. I am only a 5 jump chump, but those wings mean alot.  He is a good friend.

Jarrett,  There's some pretty good advise from the_ak_kid.  I know it ain't easy to feel the way you do, but you should take that advise to heart.  Little good can come from beating yourself up over events you can not control.  Everyone here knows the amount of effort you spend supporting our warriors.  It's obvious that Brian did!   I'm sure those who have received your care packages deeply appreciate your efforts too.  Hang in there!  I'll see you in a few days...

the_ak_kid, I hope to see you again in a few days in Waco as well!  Don't be UA Devil Dog!

BOTH of you be sure to tell Brian we are proud of his service, and we pray for his safe and speedy return.
