After a long, arduous journey, the mailman just delivered the knives to me with sheaths. Last Wednesday I drove to Wisconsin Dells to pick up the finished plaques. At long last, they are done and ready to be presented at Gunstock. Thanks again to everyone who made this possible.
 I'm going to tack this for a day or two, but we have a clutter of tacked topics, so not for long. Hopefully everyone who has been wondering will see this. I will try to get pics, but I don't have a digital camera yet. They turned out absolutely perfect. Every detail is just perfect. I hope the Avila's end up as pleased as I am.

I know, I'm sorry. I wanted to post something in order to let everyone know where we stand. Updates have been long/hard coming, but we're finally done. The original goal was to present them last Christmas. Ha! I had no clue how involved and slow it is to have custom work done. Chuck Hawes (HawesForge here on the board) was very kind to push these through quickly, but everything else has been a PITA to deal with. I will not soon jump into something like this again.

Hey, I would have, but I don't know where you live, and I was on a tight schedule (blowing off work) and had my wife with me. My mom was beating me up to see her, as well as my grandma. My nieces just DEMAND time and attention, and I'm sorry, my friend, but you just can't compete with them.

I have had these knives in my hands at Bulletfest.....and they are a dream!
The exact blade shape I wanted and love in Damascus steel and with a made to fit the owner's hand stag handle(hands were traced and sent to Chuck for an appropriate fit) I don't think any picture can do justice to these knives.You have to feel the balance and fit in your hand -while gutting a deer or an elk- to get full appreciation. Thanks to everyone, from knife/sheath/case maker to contributor,involved in this project! A special thanks to tbk1 for all the hard work in coordinating the entire thing!

I don't have a digi camera. I'm sure people have been wondering WTF happened to their hard-earned money, as progress has been ugly slow. They're done, they are absolutely perfect, and they are done in time for Gunstock and hunting season (for Ed Sr.). Pics will be posted--I just don't have a way to do it. I tried using a disposable camera and getting it developed to a disk before and here are the results:   I'm sorry--best I can do. |

The pictures REALLY do not do them justice. The damascus steel is beautiful, as is the Sambar stag handles. The sheaths are pigskin, open top (as chosen by Ed Sr.) and were made by Bob Schrap. The plaques turned out MUCH better than I hoped (should have for the five months it took to get them) and the walnut frames/knife cradle are perfect.
