My grandauther is 10 years old and is on the small side. She is old enough now where I can take her to the range where I shoot. I need some good ideas for a 22 bolt action that will fit her small size and be of good quality to use as a hand down in the family.

Ruger All Weather 77/22 with polymer stock. Very accurate and durable.

i HIGHLY recommend older winchester and remington bolt action rifles for youth training. the are light weight and durable enough to last over 100 years. parts are readily available, also.

look at the old remington 500 series and winchester 67 and 69 rifles.

The "Cricket" rifle or the "Chipmunk" rifle are both bolt action single shots that are small. Wal-Mart carries the Cricket for around $100. They are fun little guns that are great to get kids started on.

I'm a 4H Shooting Education Instructor for kids 9-18. The Cricket or Chipmunk have been the best rifle I've come across for the new kids who can't support the heavier rifles. If your grandaughter is only going to shoot from the bench, then I would recommend one of the CZ or Marlin youth rifles. I would consider these two to be the next best on the list for a new shooter. Economic, reliable, and good shooters.

Marlin makes a Model 15Y (I believe) inexpensive and good quality. I installed a receiver sight on one for my sons, it carried them through their early teens until they grew into full sized rifles. I basically sold it for what I had in it.
