Buy the AR first and buy the computer part at a time, the AR is not going to change in value much, buying the computer over a few months may save you a few bucks because prices on all computer parts slowly drop, a top of the line CPU today may be two steps down in three months, and only cost you half as much.

+1.

Sturmwehr,

The fact that you're posting means your computer is working fine.  Besides you could use some more vitamin K.  Get out and blast those real zombies.  JMO.

Last time I checked, there were no calls from our govt to ban computers.

Get the Ar now, computer later.

Good advice was had from peekay.  You can buy a lower now for about $100 bucks and put it aside.  Then later on you can buy the rest of the parts and build whatever you want. It is very simple to do.

Or even better, buy two or three (or more) lowers now for later.

Computers are stupid.  Guns are cool.

Just thinking about buying a new computer will cause it to depreciate by at least 15%.  By the time you actually own it, it's worth less than 50% of whatever you paid for it.  Within a week, you can get about $25 for it, if you can find someone who has been sleeping for the last four years and has no idea of it's true worth.  Within about two months, you have to PAY somebody to take it off your hands.  Then the cycle starts all over again.

At least that how it seems to me.

The AR will hold it's value just about forever.

"Vitamin K" huh?  That's perfect!

I'm in the same boat.

But I figure I'd rather have another bullet hose than a box. I only get one shot by throwing the box.

Damn, I know the feeling. Im getting ready to drop the fat bucks on a new video card this weekend and I would rather be spending it on more AR stuff. But I vowed not to miss the launch of Half Life2, so the computer has to be in prime condition for the release.

I've went to three gunshows, I'll only go again if I know a dealer that's attending there. Too many assholes wanting waaay too much money for too much worthless shit.

Why not upgrade what you've got? If you're just wanting something to play DOOM3 just upgrade the video card and you should be fine with just about any CPU put out in the last two years.

I know what you mean though, I just built a new system from the ground up a couple months ago and it ROCKS. So fast compared to my old dually PIII that it's like night and day. But I built it for multimedia editing. I could have just upgraded the graphics and been able to play any game on the street today.

Why not upgrade what you've got?

I would, but it might actually be more expensive than buying a new PC, also, this is the only usable PC at the moment (and my mother loves to play games on sites like pogo for hours at a time - limiting my zombie and Nazi hunting).

I need a new powersupply to handle a larger processor, new HD, new RAM (PC-3200, of course. 512 MB). I'm shooting for a 2.6 Athlon XP, since with all the fans available on the new case I would be getting (the case on this computer is a MINI-TOWER, it's like the impotent penis of computers, worthless and laughable), I would be able to handle overclocking temps and such.

If you're just wanting something to play DOOM3 just upgrade the video card and you should be fine with just about any CPU put out in the last two years.

Unfortunately, the most my 250watt powersupply can handle is a Radeon 9600 PRO - which I have. Any more power (which I need) must be spent also towards a new powersupply (~400 watt would do).

Also, this Athlon 1.8 was nice two years ago, but now? I just need more power.

Do you have a Fry's Electronics Nearby?

Fry's Electronics

If you do, then watch for specials... They sell stuff for prices that are hard to beat, but you've got to wait for the specials on what your after...

I had a similar dillema.  I built the computer first, but only 'cause I was waiting for Sept 14th.  I'd build the Rifle now, if I were you...

...Like, $120. At most.

I have to work 77 hours to afford this PC... A little more for the AR (because if I want an AR, it's going to be a GOOD one. T3 receiver... 16" barrel, nice pict rails... 4-position M4 stock... bayonet lug, ect.)

It's no good buying something you want only to have it fall short of what you wanted, it's frustrating. I'm a person that would rather save up for months and buy a VERY NICE thing than spend it early and get some half-assed attempt at what I want.
