As the readership grows and ARFCOM gains a higher profile in the gun community, is it possible to retain the "edginess"   that made it so great? It seems to me that there has been a much higher focus on appearances as popularity has increased and there are no signs of that changing. I was quite surprised to see the WGoblins running back thread had been deleted, locked no, but locked and deleted yes. And it made me wonder about the future of ARFCOM. The amount and type of topics which have become off-limits continues to grow and stuff that was commonplace a couple years ago is quickly discouraged now. Or at least that how I see it.

...just wondering if anyone else has considered the same. And is there a long term growth plan for ARFCOM. Maybe as a PAC or something.

It surprised the crap out of me. Disappointed me as well. The whole premise was based on the fact that blacks are so much better, whites are a novelty at the position.

This PC stuff is getting disturbing. Glad to see the thread was resurrected.

As there is no way to please both sides, we try to strike a balance acceptable to most.

Make up the rules and obey them  ----------- period, it is when you try to please most that it all goes to shit. JMO

I haven't really noticed it myself. Maybe I just don't follow the threads on those topics.

I think that if we have the opportunity to show ourselves to be literate (which we are), intelligent people I think we'll win over more of the undecided people to our cause. I do think there is room for humor that might offend some, or comments (within reason) that others might not find tasteful.

Some of the more extreme examples probably should be edited/deleted. Sorry, but it's true. Frankly, this is a private site. Some people try to rail against the perceived censorship, but it's a private place. If the Avilas wanted to ban all vowels, w(e)'d h(a)v(e) t(o) (ei)th(e)r c(o)mply (o)r g(o) s(o)m(e)wh(e)r(e) (e)ls(e). I know we'd go somewhere else... But the example is true, and the "censorship" is only in extreme cases.

We copy/paste from the DU all the time... do we want to be made examples of in the same way (for the other side?) Or do we want to be that beacon of light for people to realize that we're not "kill 'em all" hair trigger types just raring to shoot someone?

The Conduct Code was changed about a year ago--and greatly trimmed.  The BOTD stuff has been relaxed greatly--to the chagrine of many.  It's not about being "PC"--it's about doing what we have to in order to continue to exist.  Please keep in mind that absolutely any issue you can name has vocal proponents on both sides--each demanding the exact opposite.  As there is no way to please both sides, we try to strike a balance acceptable to most.  The Mods and Staff are all human--and subject to human subjectivity.  Plus we make mistakes on occasion.    <--NOT us.

Well said.

Now get rid of that BOTD crap!!!

In a effort to educateus bible thumping or bible dumping gun-nuts DU has made the Avila family a buyout offer of 10billion. On the "New and improved" Ar15.com you must register your thought process. Money, its a glorious thing!

Thank you.

Just move that stuff to the team forum.

Right now there is no content-based incentive to
join as 99% of the off-topic (read: non-gun related)
content is in here.

Why pay for the cow when you can get the
milk for free. I know that I joined becuase
I wanted to support this site, but I doubt that
everyone has the same reasoning...

I'll direct you to some of the other
gun-related/survival boards out there.
I stopped visiting one in particular
(something about a tree-rat) because
it had WAY too much of a racist /
bigotted / "Christian Warrior" undertone
to it. I don't want to see the same thing
happen here.

I don't mind the BOTD stuff we have here at ARFCOM. It should be in the Team Forum, however.

i think the site is LESS pc than it used to be. i remember seeing no fual language on the site. now its "fuck fuckity fuck fuck" all the time.

personally i could do without BOTD, i dont know why everyone cries about it all the time. there is plenty of porn on the web. i dont come here for chicks. i come here for guns. and fellowship with like minded individuals.

i think a greater threat to the site vis a vis its popularity is the recent spate of retards. airsoft posers, and general dipshits that infest and ruin every other gun forum. we have a unique uclture here and i dont think that can survive indefinitely. so far things look good. we got some tards but this is still a great place for REAL information.

to me the serach function is a HUGE incentive to join. spend 45 minutes going back 115 pages for a thread and your 20.00 pretty much would have paid for itself.
