The Conduct Code was changed about a year ago--and greatly trimmed.  The BOTD stuff has been relaxed greatly--to the chagrine of many.  It's not about being "PC"--it's about doing what we have to in order to continue to exist.  Please keep in mind that absolutely any issue you can name has vocal proponents on both sides--each demanding the exact opposite.  As there is no way to please both sides, we try to strike a balance acceptable to most.  The Mods and Staff are all human--and subject to human subjectivity.  Plus we make mistakes on occasion.    <--NOT us.  

I don't think we will ever be considered PC.  We will however I think become more polite I would hope.  We will also perhaps be a little less tollerant of racists, bigots, and people who advocate doing illegal things. Even though we know those things were never really tolerated by the membership, we might step up enforcement of the COC a little in those areas just to keep things from getting out of hand.  Like it or not, the membership here is perhaps some of the most informed technically and politically on RKBA issues and in fact many issues not related to RKBA.  We are a go to source for information.  In fact, for the media watching, I would venture we are a good pulse on America.  90k or so members, wide diversity both economic and social.  With those attributes its a wonderful thing when we can treat each other politely.

That IS what we do--I meant the rules were crafted (and tweaked from time to time) in order to strike some sort of balance acceptable to all.  Please note the post above by Shotar--he wants things more civil.  Many do.  Many also want a total free-for-all a la Full-Auto.com.  The Avila's want a family-oriented site which still appeals to the overwhelming majority--knuckle-dragging men who belch a great deal.  <BURRRRRRRRRRRRP>

The BOTD issue has been--by far--the most contentious thing on the site.  I have never had any say whatsoever as to what has been allowed at any given time.  I was/am just the "ARFCOM asshole" assigned (by choice) the task of dealing with it.  It has long been a HUGE thorn in my side.  I like the present arrangement, as it has minimal attention needed.  This is the epitome of an issue with no good resolution available--MANY do not want "girly pics" of any kind--there's many places to get those elsewhere.  The relative few who want pics are very vocal, however.  I think the real dynamic of the situation is everyone thinks the other members of the site are "just like me"--meaning posting in the same way, from the same place, and has the same taste in what is desired.  The truth is, we have much in common, but are very different in many fundamental ways.  Many post at home in their underwear (blech!) while many are posting from work--and would get in trouble for BOTD pics showing up unexpectedly.  Many are observant Christians who come here for guns and gun-related banter--and REALLY do not want to see scantily-clad women.  For sure, everyone wants the site to exist in just the image THEY desire--times 50,000+.

That's how it was before--as I said, I don't get to decide anything like that.  Your reason for supporting the site (THANKS!) is THE reason desired by the Avila's.  Weird people they are--they actually want to give to others.

I agree--but as I said, I have zero influence over those decisions.  In a practical sense though, I HATED that being implemented as I spent FAR too much time policing it here in GD (and the Mods too, of course).  It was a real PITA.
