What are those pauldrons (shoulder armor?) that are being worn in the first couple of pics.  Is that some supplemental armor to prevent fire and shrapnel coming in through the arm openings of the body armor?

Are those pieces of body armor that he has on his shoulders?  Never seen that before.  Also love the "old school" rifle.  Love the black rifes, but it's nice to see our guys rockin' something else once in a while.

Also, thanks for the pics, Lumpy.  Your work in posting these daily does not go unappreciated.

Dude looks a little long in the tooth to be a foot soldier in Iraq. Bet he's had the M14 since he fought in Korea with it

I just love the scumbag with the "stop killing journalists" t-shirt. I bet on the back it says, "but, keep killing innocent people so I will have dead bodies to photograph" I hate reporters and such types.

ETA: I love the photos of the soldier with the M-14, makes me think the army was wishing for a little more knockdown power.

I saw a show on TV a while back. The armor was designed by Military Doctors in Iraq.

The docs are trying to protect our troops from IED's. It has been credited with saving lives and reducing injuries from roadside and other explosions.

The Government has put the new design on the fast track and has a vest company turning them out as fast as they can.

It is good to see they got the color right. for the new panels anyway.
