Here's a picture of the SKS.

And here's a link to the story in today's paper.

Huh? It was an AK47 and they called it an SKS? Thats the first time I can recall someone in the media calling an AK something else, instead of calling something else an AK. The status quo would be if the cop was shot with the .357 and they said that was the SKS.

I don't see a front site post on the AK and the mag looks like it might be converted too. A little busy on the top of the mag. .22lr maybe?

Good pick-up.  I used to own an AK style rifle made in the Philipines that was 22LR.  But it did have a front sight post.  It would be interesting to know what kind of rifle that is.

If they show pictures of AKs and call them SKSs - then the SKS will be included on the next proposed ban.

For instance - if each time the media showed an M1-Abrams tank and they called them Beretta 92Fs and then poll the nation asking if civilians should have Beretta 92s, nearly everyone would say no (except the arfcom crowd).

ITS A MEDIA TRAP!

Now you see refined techniques in the quest for public disarmament. Truth has never served the gun grabbers well. They know they must adapt or die to further the cause. This is just evolution you've witnessed.

"At the time, police confiscated a cache of weapons from Anderson. The city officials, finding that they had no legal justification to keep the guns, later returned them to Anderson."

WTF?!?! You think they'd ever give you a break like that?!

The .22 is for the pocket derringer at the top of the photo i think.

The rifle looks like a SAR ( romanian)  no front sight post and a bolt locked to the rear somehow, I wonder if this was the stoppage that gave the other officer time to close with and kill the perp.
That mag has me wondeirng though what the heck is sticking out of the top of it. maybe they jerked the fallower out of wack?

Perhaps the gun that killed the cop was the revolver, and the "SKS" is a Mitchell AK copy, or variant chambered in .22 LR? Mitchell AK Copy

Even if the revolver is the weapon that killed the cop, the media and anti-gunners will swear that the evil AW magically had something to do with the killing.

Sheesh.........

Or it could be a Galil copy.... Galil Copy

AK bolts don't lock back, but you can get them to "stick" in an open position.

If you have an AK, pull back on your bolt and very slowly ride it forward, it should get stuck.

I know my SLR-95 does it, but can't positively remember if my MKII (AK-74) can.  I can't check because I'm in CA and they're not.

Mine stays back if I pull it all the way to the rear, hold the trigger and let go. Slowley riding it forward does nothing.

that's not an AK47.

AKM, AKS, Norinco Type 56S, or Mak 90 are all more likely, than the relatively rare AK47.

That's awful nice furniture for a weapon that's been riding around with some gangbanger. That's about as strange to me as the missing FSB.

I havent seen anything that leads me to believe the shooter was a gang member.  from the article; "Anderson was discharged with a diagnosis of delusional disorder, alcohol abuse and cannabis abuse."

So he was a nut, a drunk, a pot head, and probubly an art bell listening tin foil hat wearing paranoid...but not a banger.
