Because I live in the U.S.A. and my countries founding documents recognize my God given right to keep and bear arms. They further say that this right is not to be infringed. Therefore, as long as I am not infringing on the rights of others, I should not be PREVENTED from owning one, as opposed to being permitted to. How's that??? huh? huh? whaddeyewin??? |

I just dont see what is so bad about automatic fire by law abiding people. I just cant see it.
I would really like a machine gun but I just cant afford it. Not what I want anyway.  I can probably empty a magazine with effective aimed semi-auto fire as fast as effective aimed bursts from an M16 and get more shots on target. I can probably also spray and pray just as ineffectively as full auto fire only a bit slower. 30 rounds is only 30 rounds. |

Why not? Why shouldn't law-abiding people be able to own full-auto? What's the problem? Personally, I don't have much use for one, but I'd like the opportunity to own one just the same.

I'll up the anti on this one. I think we should be able to own rifle mounted grenade launchers and the grenades to go with them, and for that matter if Bill Gates wants to buy an M1A1 tank, he should have one. Sky's the limit.

hey, since the law defines a machine gun as any gun that fires more than one round per trigger pull, could we get around that by designing a full auto gun w/o a trigger?
and yes, this HAS been done. not sure if anything came of it legally. |

What he said... and it is noteworthy that among the earliest laws passed by the fledgling US Congress was the militia act... established that all able-bodied men 18-45 comprised the militia... and that they were to be ready to show up for duty (if called) with a personally owned weapon suitable infantry use. That later part was removed because it placed a high financial burden on the mostly agricultural citizenry. The remaining part (men 18-45 - I qualify, and I bet most of the  's here do to) still comprise the militia. So, had they not repealed that second part, I'd be obligated to have an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon or an M-16 with M203 grenade launcher in my closet.... you too for that matter!Put THAT in your blunt 'n smoke it! |
