watching We Were Soldiers?

I'll admit, I get choked up when Col Moore's wife is delivering the telegrams. Between the cinematography and the score, its a very powerful scene.

Hal Moore's wife just died recently about a year ago.

The part I like was when Hal Moore goes, "I will be the first one on the battlefield and I will be the last one to leave."

I just relive the pain I felt when friends didn't come back from the day's missions. Now that I think about it, I haven't watched a war movie in a couple years.

That's the only part that gets me. Same with "Saving Private Ryan" when they show up to tell the mother.

I've always felt the same way, civilians, kids, support personnel, etc. they didn't enlist for it, they weren't trained for it. I feel for them, and always will.

Seeing those women trying to keep a brave face as they are giving out the worst news one could expect.
I think the way it was filmed/the music contributes greatly to that feeling as well. Very well done.

I get choked up when he returns home and gets to hug his wife and children, mainly because there were so many who never came back to have that luxury.

The whole movie makes me misty-eyed, for I know that it is based upon actual events and individuals.

When someone dies in the battle, it is because, in real life, that soldier died.

And the scenes of Col. Moore's wife and her friend delivering the Western Union telegrams to the wives whose husbands are killed in action are surely sad, sad scenes.

And that was also taken from real life events.

I just can't get into the movie. The shoot-from-the-hip combat scenes ruin it for me. Blackhawk Down, which came out around the same time, was much better. The story behind We Were Soldiers is certainly compelling, but the movie just isn't that good IMO.

I Loved it,

Cried like a baby when that scene came around.

well not cried like a baby, but there was definetly something in my eye.

maybe a piece of dirt or something.

The only part which annoys me about that whole movie is how they just HAVE to have the obligatory. "Dey ain't no dirty ol' racists in the military, these civvy crackas just don't understand".

All of which is fine and good. There should be only TWO colors in the Mil. Friend, and Foe.

But it seems they go out of their way to pander in that movie.

The book was much better--and emotionally wrenching. Especially the second battle encounter (NOT in the movie) where they were ambushed and some US troops were executed by the NVA.

Yes, I get emotional about it. Then again, I get emotional thinking about our armed forces in the Middle East and our men in previous wars (including those who fought on both sides of the Civil War).

Yes, and a couple places in "Platoon" and a few places in "Hambuger Hill" and several places in "Band of Brothers" and a couple places in "Saving Pvt.Ryan". Seeing brave men give their lives for their own always gets me choked up.

Like has been said, " This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:12-13

That about sums it up.

Yup...me too. A very moving flic.

BTW...being a CACO REALLY sucks. Probably one of the toughest jobs I ever had to do.
