I’m baby sitting my 4 year old nephew tonight until his parents pick him up tomorrow morning.  When I first brought him home this evening he wanted some raisins (his favorite snack) but I didn’t have any so I gave him a bag of prunes and told him it was giant raisins.  Well, he liked them so I let him eat 4 or 5 pieces.  Later after dinner he went into the kitchen and ate couple more prunes before I caught him. I’m not sure but I think he ate about 8 pieces.

Everything was okay for about 4 hours but just as he was about to go to sleep he tells me he has to go to the toilet and from the look on his face and his voice I can tell it was real urgent.  As I pick him up and carry him to the bathroom I can tell (smell) something fierce had just started.  He was wearing on of those diaper underwear and as I pulled it down “it” ran all over my shirt and he was still not done as he was producing some new ones and dropping them on the floor of the bathroom. I finally got his butt on the toilet seat and let him finish. I could tell from his face that he was not feeling too great.  After he finished I took him out to the garage and washed him off.  I had him washing in the bathtub as I started to clean the bathroom floor and the toilet when he tells me he has to go again!  This time I picked him up and sat his butt on the toilet seat before anything started.

Now I’m getting worried because he has “gone” 4 times in 2 hours and I’m not sure if it is over yet.  Everything has been quiet for last 1 hour and he is sleeping now.  He doesn’t have any stomach pain just the runs.

How do I “neutralize” the effect of the prunes?  Or do I just have to wait until he moves everything out?

Please help.

dont know about the prunes man

but you ought to keep the kid hydrated; dehydration is VERY bad, expecially in youngsters

Not sure how to neutralize prunes but.....

****MAKE HIM DRINK SOME WATER.****

The runs will dehydrate a 4 year old real quick.

Poor kid! Looks like you'll have to wait till he's finished....

Mom and Dad might not want little Billy to stay with Uncle Yobo anymore. You might have just earned the title of "The Uncle we never talk about"....

Yeah, give him plenty of water also..(No juice unless you want it to start again!)

You didnt know prunes were a natural laxative?

When he gets them out of his system, "it" will stop.

And the most comical thread of the day award goes to......

So far so good.  He's still sleeping.

I did have him drink a lot.  I mixed a little apple juice with lots of water in the camelbackand let him suck on it.  I  think he drank about 2-3 cups of it before falling a sleep.  I think I'm going to wake him up in few minutes to see if I can get him to drink some more.

In the meantime I still have to finish cleaning up the bathroom and wash my shirt and shorts before my wife wakes up and finds out what is going on (she went to sleep early).

Doesn't banana "plug-up" the pipe?

I know they are but didn't think much about it because I eat couple of them every day and it never had any effect on me.   But then I never ate more than 4 or 5 a day.

I personally wouldnt try and plug him up. First you chase the shit out of him, then you want the poor kid to bust a vessel getting a log out. Once the prune wears off....Gets out, its over.

But if you are intent on binding his ass up, peanut butter & cheese sammich. He will never shit again!

Dr CV says water is good.

Note to self, never let Uncle yobo watch your eggiya.

Gotta remember you probably outweigh the kid by over at least 100lbs (my daughter is 4, I outweigh her by 175lbs)  8 prunes in a >50lb kid is like greasing the rails for a Wyllie Coyote ACME rocket sled.

I have him wearing one of those diaper underwear and I have couple of towels under him and over him.

Wish me luck, I'm off to clean the bathroom now.

Jesus H. Christ......... don't ever feed prunes to children!!

Although I'm sure you've learned your lesson by now.  From a mother, don't give him juice, don't try to plug him up, it'll only make things worse for him in the long run.  Do as the others said and give him water and feed him a hearty breakfast.  Just wait for things to run their course.

I worke him up in the middle of the night and took him to the bathroom but he only had to do a little bit of number 1... thank god.  He also drank some water (without apple juice) but mostly he just wanted to sleep.  This morning I found his diaper wet so I guess that means he is rehydrated.  He ate some PBJ toast this morning and had milk and everything is holding together.  It seems to be all over but I have to admitt I was very worried last night.

Wife doesn't know what happened but I think she is suspecting something because she knows I cleaned the guest bathroom and washed and dried a load of laundry last night.

Time to give the kid a bath... I called and told his mom that I'll take him to school this morning.

Thank you all for your help.

Man, if he ate 8 prunes, that'd be like you eating about 25-30 of them.  I think one or two IF he's a little constipated might be okay, but anything above that, and you're gonna have liftoff.

If prunes are laxatives, does that mean that plums are too?  How come you never hear about that?
