Only if you want. A lot of places are tacking on delivery fees and the like. Hell he chose the job. Choose your fate, choose your rate. I tip if he's got a decent attitude. but it is rare indeed that I order pizza. |

I worked delivering pizza many years ago for some extra cash. I carried, I'd rather get fired than dead. Did the same thing working 3rd shift at a 7-11.

Generally I would say Yes, but based on the Pizza Delivery Drivers I've met HELL NO.
I live on a "block that is straight on the north, east and south sides and the west side has 3 short cul-de-sacs. I'm the second house on one of the cul-de-sacs and the Pizza place is across the street from the norteast corner of the block. They still get lost. People like that shouldn't be allowed to drive let alone carry weapons of any kind. |

Just goes to show that ANYONE can have a webpage these days..I voted yes, but I can see WHY pizza companies wont allow it, given the calibre of some delivery guys I have had in the past, and the liability dollar signs that flash in the eyes of pizza company execs when their damage control lawyers talk about payouts because their delivery guys shot the wrong person.

When I was in college, I was a pizza guy...
I do support their right/need to carry. When we order pizza, I usually pick it up, because the area I live in seems to be a bit too distant from my preferred pizza vendors. They do deliver, but I hate waiting like 45 minutes... Anyway - I am a "normal" tipper in restaurants, 15 to 20 %... But when it comes to pizza, IF I get it delivered, it seems like there is always a delivery charge. I always ask the driver what their cut of the charge is, and modify my tip to them accordingly. The deliver charge is misleading and a rip off... |

I have delivered many pizzas, sometimes I carried sometimes I didn't. The reason I didn't at my first delivery job was because the plurality of my orders were on a military reservation, and toting a pistol there is bad juju. I really loved driving pizzas, it is a nice job, you get to spend a lot of time in your car alone, you get to meet a lot of different people in circumstances that they are very comfortable and open in, and you never have to get up early in the morning. The downside is that the average stick up kid knows that the major pizza chains like Dominos and Papa Johns forbid thier drivers to pack heat whether it is leagal to or not, and will often take advantage of this situation. Of course there are always those who are going to carry anyway, but it is a bad move to make your employees have to chose between thier jobs and risking thier lives, it will often make those who carry regardless of company plolicy hestitate when they should be drawing. I also think that if every other Pizza driver had a piece sticking out of thier belt that Pizza delivery driver would fall off the list of most liekly to be murdered in the line of work proffesions.
